Five on Friday (47)

Last week was SO busy for me! I did fun things, but was out more often than I usually am, so it was also exhausting. This week’s been a bit slower, so thank goodness for that, although it’s been a “headache week.” Oftentimes when I get a headache, it’ll last for days. I basically had a low grade headache from Monday – Thursday, and it’s finally gone now. I was popping Ibuprofen constantly, and had to take my Sumatriptan once. Ugh.

Despite the headaches, Valentine’s Day was nice. When I got home from work, Jerry had made a cute little set up for me like he did last year. I got two new horror Funko Pops for my collection, a new Kindle case, and sea salt caramels. He also got me flowers and a balloon, and cooked me Alfredo for dinner! I got him Suspiria on Blu Ray and an Under Armour shirt. I also brought home a heart cookie cake for us and Caleb (who only ate one bite). Caleb had a blast at school and got lots of valentines and candy.

Other than that, here’s what I’ve been up to lately.

ONE.

My aunt and I saw our most recent musical last week which was Chicago. It was my second time seeing it live and it was fantastic! I’ve always had a soft spot for this musical because my friends and I were obsessed with the movie back in high school, and were even planning to make our own movie version of it, but it never happened. True story: we made a lot of home movies and music videos. That’s what we did for fun… good times. Anyway, my favorite songs are probably Cell Block Tango and Mr. Cellophane.

TWO.

Since we’re on the topic of musicals… I had a two musical week last week! Friday night, my besties and I went to one of the local high school’s productions of Mamma Mia. It was absolutely AMAZING! Mamma Mia is one of my favorite movies. My friends and I became obsessed with it (and then ABBA, of course) in high school. We were forever listening to the soundtrack, and even got an ABBA Karaoke game for the Wii. Seeing it on stage brought back so many good memories, and the high schoolers were so talented and funny. Before we went out to see it, they came over to my place first and we had some pizza. Caleb also got a little veterinarian set as a belated birthday gift that he showed off for us. It was a great night!

THREE.

Caleb has become obsessed lately with taking pictures and videos on my phone. One day last week, he took a photo of me right after I had woken up. My hair was still greasy and unwashed, I had no makeup on, and my legs were bare and flabby. You know what he said to me after he took the photo? “Wow! You so beautiful, Mommy!” I love that he said this, not because I wanted to feel beautiful, but because that little guy… his love is just so dang pure and sweet! It’s that simple. He loves me purely, regardless of what I look like. Doesn’t matter if I’m fat or skinny, made up or not. He just loves me and thinks I’m beautiful because I’m his mom… that’s all that matters in his eyes, and I love him the same way back. That is one of the greatest things about being a mother.

FOUR.

Weather has been trippin’ lately. We had a freaking snow blizzard, freezing rain, a 65 degree day, and a windstorm all within one week of each other. Well during the wind storm, I opened the storm door to take my dog out and it whipped right out of my hand, slammed into the house, and the entire pane of glass shattered. What the actual f*ck!?! So that’ll be another expensive repair this spring. We’ll probably replace it with a screen instead of glass, but we’ll see. Oh the joys of homeownership.

FIVE.

We got our taxes done this week and holy cow…. we’re getting almost double what we usually get. To say we’re relieved is a massive understatement. We’ve been pretty wiped out financially since my maternity leave and not working for 3 months, and have been trying to recoup our savings ever since. PLUS, we have a preschool payment and my car inspection / brakes all in March. Now we don’t have to stress about how we’ll pay for all those things. I’d been reading all these articles that people’s refunds were decreasing this year, so we were VERY pleasantly surprised.

So glad it’s finally the weekend (plus a three day weekend for me, thank you Presidents Day) and I can spend some quality time with all of my guys. Jerry and I have been watching a great horror show called Channel Zero, so we’ll probably polish off a few more episodes of that this weekend, plus work out and do laundry. Always, always laundry… my most hated chore. Most importantly, my soon to be godson is also being baptised this weekend! His mama is my best friend and is Caleb’s godmother. I am so honored and can’t wait to celebrate afterward too at dinner!
