Meredith Schorr has quickly become one of my all time favorite authors. Every time she writes a new book, it’s a guaranteed good read and always exactly what I need. I have read, loved, and reviewed both of her previous novels, Just Friends With Benefits and A State of Jane, and her latest, Blogger Girl, was no exception.
Legal secretary by day and book reviewer by night, Kim is a chick-lit lover lover who runs the popular book blog, “Pastel is the New Black.” She’s passionate about reading and promoting her favorite genre, until a review request comes in for a new book by debut author, Hannah Marshak… who happens to be Kim’s biggest high school nemesis and a total b*tch. With their ten year high school reunion quickly approaching, Kim must decide whether she’ll help – or ruin – Hannah’s blossoming writing career. In the meantime, she’s drooling over the hot, young attorney at her law firm while attempting to realize her own dreams of becoming an author.
Okay, seriously, if you are a book blogger, book lover, or chick-lit fan, you simply have to read this book! Meredith knows these areas well and it shows. She perfectly captures the essence of both chick-lit and book blogging and I feel like she just MUST have been in my own head while she was writing this book, and I think all book bloggers will agree! I’m so thrilled that she has managed to shine a light on book blogging and show how important, rewarding, and difficult it all can be. Kudos to Meredith for recognizing that!
Not only did I love this book because it’s about a book blogger, it’s just damn good chick-lit! It has: swoonworthy boys, a flawed but lovable heroine, great friends, and yummy drinks! I loved Kim (also, to those who have read it – how cute is the karaoke scene?!) because she was real. She messed up sometimes, like all of us do, and she worried about how to fix those mistakes. She struggled with doing the “right thing” on more than one occasion, and I was right there with her, wondering what I would do, and what the right decisions truly were. Perfect people don’t exist, and I was glad to see such a real heroine in Kim. I really enjoyed seeing the internal struggles that Kim had to face. Even though that part of the story could be serious, which gave the story some great depth, the book was also a total blast and I found myself missing the story and its characters long after I finished the book.
Okay, Miss Meredith Schorr, when’s the next book coming out?! I am on the edge of my seat ready and waiting to read any and all of your future works! Schorr is such a talented writer that I even read through all of the old posts on her author blog (wait – is that flattering or creepy?) because she is that good and engaging of a writer that even her blog is fantastic. I highly recommend every single one of her books to all fans of chick-lit.
