Christmas Movies + Holiday Watching
Schedules, reviews, archives, yearly stats, favorites, and the seasonal movie tradition that somehow became a full-blown project.
Every year, sometime around late October, I fully surrender to Christmas movie season. I build schedules, track premieres, rate everything I watch, obsess over network lineups, and spend nearly two months watching fake snow, small-town festivals, improbable romances, and enough hot cocoa to sustain a minor village.
What started as a casual tradition slowly turned into an archive. Now I track yearly viewing stats, seasonal favorites, network rankings, review roundups, schedules, and a growing master checklist of holiday movies across Hallmark, Lifetime, Great American Family, UPtv, Netflix, and beyond.
🎄 My Holiday Movie Personality Profile
From late October through Christmas Day, I watch nothing but holiday content. Regular TV, movies, and even some of my reading habits get temporarily pushed aside while I fully commit to Christmas movie season. Over time, I have learned that I am very specific about what works for me in a Christmas movie, even though I continue to watch plenty that ignore my preferences entirely. My favorite network is usually Hallmark, followed by Great American Family, Lifetime, and then UPtv. I primarily DVR everything through Philo and usually aim for one movie on weeknight evenings, with more on weekends when I can.
Love Seeing
- Snowy small towns
- Cozy inns, bakeries, and bookstores
- Family and community dynamics
- Emotional warmth without cynicism
- Winter festivals and tree lightings
- Characters rediscovering joy
- Chemistry that actually feels believable
- Movie settings that make me want to move there immediately
Usually Not for Me
- Royal movies
- Overly magical plots
- Cheap production quality (sorry, UPtv)
- Corporate business storylines
- Military romances can be hit or miss
- Fake chemistry carrying the entire plot
- Movies that somehow forget to feel cozy
🎄 Main Archives
📅 Seasonal Schedules + Watchlists
Before each season starts, I build a full premiere schedule and watchlist with release dates across networks. These become my roadmap for the season and usually evolve as lineups change.
🎁 Season Wrap-Ups
My yearly wrap-ups include viewing totals, averages, favorites, network rankings, watching habits, seasonal reflections, and what worked or absolutely did not during the season.
✍️ Review Roundups
Throughout the season, I batch my mini reviews into roundup posts with ratings, quick thoughts, standouts, disappointments, and occasional evidence that I may have watched too many Christmas movies in too short a window.
