January was pretty good to me. I could sum it up in one word: celebration!
Jerry and I are both January babies. I turned 25 and Jerry turned 27, and we did a lot of celebrating (and eating). I even had a five day weekend for my birthday, and it was glorious! I worked on my 24th birthday and decided it was not very festive, so I took off this time around. We ate lots of good food together and with my family, and I also got some pretty great gifts, like all the expansion packs for Cards Against Humanity, Mindy Kaling’s book (love her), a space heater for work (it’s freezing there), new shoes, a new reading light, and other goodies. I got Jerry a Fitbit for his birthday – he’s been wanting one forever!
I also celebrated my two year “healthiversary” this month. It’s always a good time for reflection and looking back at how far I’ve come. Hint… it’s pretty far!
This month we also did a lot with our dog fostering. I haven’t talked about it much on the blog yet (I will soon), but Jerry and I started dog fostering in December. In early January, our first foster dog, Jazmine, found her forever home. She was with us for about a month. She was a wild young dog, and we thought we’d be happy to see her go, but I was sad and cried for two days. Then about a week and a half ago, we brought in our second foster dog, Oliver. We were in for quite a shock when he first arrived to see that he was incredibly emaciated. After a trip to the vet, it has been discovered that he may have cancer. Needless to say, it’s been hard. I’ll post pictures and more details in a post next week, but please pray for Oliver. You can also donate to the group that we are fostering him through (graspinc.org). They are raising funds for his care.
So those are the bigger things that happened in January. I have to say, I’m a little sad to see January go. When we got married in October, everyone asked, “are you going to be sad after the wedding?” We said “No! We’re going on our honeymoon, then Thanksgiving is in November, and Christmas is in December, and our birthdays are in January.” We had a lot more events and celebrations to keep looking forward to and now they are all over! But that’s okay. We are planning on a cruise for our one year anniversary in October. We are also working on our house still! I’ve loved scouring Etsy and the local craft/antique co-ops for decor. It’s been fun making it our own, and we have a lot more work to do still!
That’s one more exciting thing! We should be closing on our house in the next few weeks! We’ve been living there for a couple of months already (my grandpa owns it), but we will finally officially own it come March! That’s pretty exciting, don’t ya think?
I’ve done pretty good as far as blogging goes. My goal for the year is to post at least twice a week. I posted eight times in January, which averages out to two per week, so yay! I also made a goal to post more personal things and kind of revamp my blog a bit, shifting the focus from solely on books to a combination blog of both books and personal. I’m still working on the adjustment and trying to come up with personal posts to write, but it’s been fun so far! I’m also on the look out for other personal blogs to add to my reader, since most of the blogs I follow so far are all book blogs (which I still love – just looking to expand!). Know any good bloggers that I might like? I’d love to find more personal blogs of women in their 20′s, or other newlyweds, or other new homeowners… I don’t know, anything interesting! I’m kind of all over the place with my own blog, so it’s cool if you are too! Leave suggestions, please!
Let’s not talk about my reading for the month…okay, let’s: I only read 2.5 books. SAD! However, in my defense, I had a few books to finish up from the end of 2013 so that took up a lot of my reading time this month.
February will be a pretty short month, but I’m hoping to maintain my regular posting, and get more reading done!
Wishing you all a wonderful month.
