Caleb turned nine months yesterday!
He is now in 18 month clothing and size five diapers. His weight is likely around 22-23 pounds. He’s still on stage two foods and HATES when we try to feed him any real food. I’m planning on asking his doctor about this next month, but I think it’s probably fine and he’s just not used to eating other textures yet. He enjoys eating and often makes an “mmm” sound in between bites.
Big news here… he FINALLY has teeth! September 27th we felt his first tooth breaking through after he shrieked and shrieked at bedtime and refused to go to sleep. Both of his bottom teeth are through now and he had a brutal time when both were breaking through. It was pretty heartbreaking but I’m hoping he’ll get a small break before the next teeth make their way out.
His sleep is okay in that he USUALLY will sleep through the night without any wake ups (unless he’s teething), however, he has taken to going to bed pretty late. His new bedtime is around 9:30 now which I’m not too happy about. He starts acting tired around 7:00, but then he won’t fall asleep until much later, even if he’s whining and crabby because he’s so sleepy. He does sleep until around 7:30 AM though now which is good. Any tips for getting him to bed earlier? Please let me know. He used to go to bed at 7:30 but now he’s so nosy and alert.
In other news, we also transitioned him out of his infant carseat and into a “big boy” one. While he’s still rear-facing, he’s got a lot more room now and sits up slightly more. He’s not a big fan of getting into his seat, but he seems to like riding in this one a bit better.
He’s really starting to develop a personality of his own and it’s a tiny bit sassy. Lately, he’s been shoving my hand away when he doesn’t want what I’m giving him, like his bottle at times. He’s also taking more of an interest in certain toys, or shall we say non-toys? His new favorite thing is a hair comb and when I had to take it away the other night, he cried. He’s also at that stage where he’s grabbing EVERYTHING in sight and reach. Last night at dinner, he dipped his hand into mashed potatoes, repeatedly grabbed at my plate, and played with a variety of spoons.
Some other milestones this past month: Caleb “picked” his first pumpkin and spent a day at the farm going on a hayride, riding in a barrel train, and sitting in corn and hay. We’re really excited to celebrate his first Halloween (as a tiny cowboy, OMG. Right now, we are loving all his Halloween outfits and books), carve his first pumpkin this week, and continue to enjoy his first fall (Mama’s favorite). He also reached his first prize milestone in the Baby Bugs reading program at my library. He read his first 50 books and received an owl puppet – hooray, Caleb (and Mama who is doing all the reading!). He’s pretty good when I read to him and pays attention for the most part. He actually laughed and grabbed at a book for the first time while I was reading, so that was awesome (the book, in case you are wondering, is called My Monster Mama Loves Me So).
He still isn’t crawling (I think he’ll skip it) walking, waving, or talking (but he does yell and make noises). I try not to worry too much about it though because I know all babies develop at their own pace. I’ve tried giving him a sippy cup a few times too, but he’s not quite sure what to do with it. If he’s anything like me, he will be a stubborn (ahem – DETERMINED) person like his mama. I think that means he will do what he wants when he feels ready, and that is just fine!
Caleb, you are one heck of a little man. My heart swells with pride whenever people tell me how cute you are (and I do hear it a lot from strangers when we’re out!). I love this little personality you are developing and can’t wait to discover even more of the person you are becoming. You are loved more than words can say.
