ONE.
My two week vacation came to an end, and I returned to work yesterday. Yes, on a Thursday, because our Irish visitors left yesterday so I figured I may as well go back to work. It feels so bizarre returning to work after some time off, doesn’t it? My time off was amazing. I got to spend a lot of time with the Irish and my family (including out of town cousins), I got to be productive at home (tons of laundry and bedroom cleaning), got in a good amount of work outs, and also relaxed a smidgen. Who can complain?
TWO.
Lots of firsts going on during my time away… Caleb’s first movie theater visits (two in one week!), Holden’s first time at the beach, and Holden’s first 4th of July! We had a cookout at my brother’s house and took our annual picture of the boys (my two and my brother’s three) in a wagon with their matching Old Navy flag shirts… but we also got to add their Irish “cousins” to the mix this year, when Adele’s little ones also got to be in the picture! As for the movies, Caleb saw Toy Story 4 with my parents, and then a whole bunch of us went to see a Pokémon movie at the discount theater in our area where they play slightly older (1 – 2 months usually) movies for cheap. We went with my brother’s family and the Irish. He was pretty well behaved for the most part, and now I’m super excited to take him to more and have a new movie buddy.
THREE.
As always, it was hard to say goodbye to Adele, my Irish friend of 20 years, and her amazing family. I loved meeting her kids and we had so much fun. We had a beach day, went to a Red Wings baseball game, took the kids to a splash park, attended a baby shower for my cousin, went to the movies, and also spent some time just hanging at my brother’s house where they were staying. I think my favorite thing we did was the baseball game. I don’t know why, but it was just a nice night, the kids were behaved, we ate some tasty food, and I just loved it. I hate saying goodbye because the last time I saw her was 10 years ago and I don’t know when we will see each other again. I’d like to take a family trip over there to Belfast in the next 5 – 10 years though. Here’s hoping!
FOUR.
I sold some more stuff on Facebook Marketplace which is always thrilling for me in such an odd way. I list my stuff dirt cheap because it always sells. I sold: our bassinet ($10), an olddog Neater Feeder ($10), a ring from an ex ($30), and a necklace from him too ($10). All this extra money came in handy because the day after, we had to do another AC repair… on the hottest day of the year. Ugh. We’re back up and running and nice and cool, praise!
FIVE.
I have finally faced the fact that I am way too addicted to sugar / sweets. For the last few months, I’ve been eating wayyy too many desserts, cookies, brownies, etc. I mean, I was eating them every day, sometimes twice a day. I connected some dots and figured out that this over-eating of sweets seemed to start after I had Holden. I think that the addition of another child while working full time and still trying to read, blog, work out, do “me” things has just been overwhelming and stressful, so I started to eat my emotions and stress eat to feel better. Despite my working out, my weight loss has halted because of it. I decided to cut way back on my sweets and try to eat healthier in general. Last night, I even had green beans with dinner (who am I?!). I also bought a bunch of lower calorie sweet treats at Aldi so that I can enjoy my sweets but without them being so high in calorie. I’ve been enjoying frozen chocolate covered bananas, cookie thins, and their version of Halo Top ice cream. I am not dieting, but just trying to clean up what I eat a bit. It’s been a long time coming, honestly, and while it’s a struggle, I also feel relieved and hopeful. I’m also going back to Saturday cheat days like I used to, so I can kick back a bit and enjoy my cookies and treats because you only live once, amiright?
So that’s where I’ve been and what I’ve been up to. I wanted to catch everyone up since I’ve been pretty absent from both my blog and YOUR blogs for the last couple of weeks. It was a chaotic, stressful, but super fun and amazing time… but I am also relieved to hopefully settle down a bit for the rest of the summer.
Tonight, Jerry is going to a concert and tomorrow I’m working all day. I hope that Sunday will be a stay home with the family kind of day.
