Get Sh*t Done: August 2019 Goals

Hi everybody! Welcome to August. Can you believe my baby is turning ONE next month now?! I cannot. Two quick little tidbits for you before we jump into my July goal progress.

  • I finally started a Bookstagram account! My good friend and coworker Karen and I had both been wanting to do it for awhile, so we thought it’d be even more fun to do it together! Please follow us at goodfriends.goodbooks.
  • Bloglovin’ seems to have lost its sh*t this week, and while it was down, I posted one of my new favorite posts that is not appearing in the Bloglovin’ feed. It’s called Worn-in Love, and I’m pretty sure that most married people or people in long term relationships can relate. It was a kind of vulnerable piece for me to write, but Jerry loved it and approved. I just had the misfortune of posting it while Bloglovin’ was down, but I hope you’ll check it out!

...and onward to the goals!

July 2019 Goals Recap

❌ Read six books: Fail. But so, so close! I made it through 5.5 books!
✅ Work out 14 times: Done! Ended the month with 15 work outs!
Clean our bedroom: Done! It was so cluttered and had lots of laundry all over. It looks so good now. I wanted to make our room a nice zen place where we could relax and I think I’ve succeeded.
Cut back on the sweets: Done! It hasn’t been easy, but I’ve done it! I used to eat cookies, brownies, whatever I wanted EVERY DAY because I craved it so much. Now, Jerry and I are back to “cheat days” on Saturdays, and that is when I’ll allow myself a major treat now. To curb the weekday cravings, I’ve stocked up on Aldis version of Halo Top ice cream and cookie thins. I am seeing the scale move down again now, so it’s been worth the hard work!
Buy more storage totes and organize: Yes! I ordered an eight pack from Walmart and was able to really organize and tidy up.
Goodwill drop off: DONE! I dropped off a big box and big bag and then promptly started a new box which stays in our garage until full. I find that the key to getting these to the Goodwill is to fill up my trunk with them so that I have no choice but to drop them off. Ha! Works like a charm though.
❌ Watch season three of 90 Day Fiancé: Fail. I started it, but I’m not done yet. I just have too many shows I’m interested in, that I’m kind of all over the place.
Watch two movies with Jerry: Done! We watched two together, and I watched one by myself:
  • Soul to Keep: Jerry picked this horror movie out on Netflix, but we both thought it was terrible. The actors were super corny.
  • Pet Sematary: We watched the new one. I really liked it, but Jerry didn’t. I’ve never seen the original. Is it worth it?
  • Second Act: I watched this one by myself and thought it was adorable.
✅ Total Completed: 6 of 8.  Pretty darn good, if you ask me!

August 2019 Goals

  • Work out 12 times: I was on vacation from work for two weeks in July and had a lot of free mornings to work out. Not so much this month.
  • Read five books: I am on a roll this year!
  • Schedule an oil change: oh what fun.
  • Finish 90 Day Fiancé, season three: Still working my way through the back seasons….
  • Watch Law & Order: The Menendez Brothers: y’all know I love me some true crime.
  • Post at least eight times to Bookstagram: Karen and I are working on building up our account, and I’m really trying to improve my photo taking skills!
  • Read 100 pages in Game of Thrones: this is the book club selection for August and September (since it’s such a long one). Can I make it through? We shall see…
  • Watch two movies
  • Lose two pounds: the scale is moving in the right direction and I need to keep this momentum going.
  • Buy small storage totes: I need some of those small shoe size plastic ones for my seasonal primitive mice that I collect. PS I started a Primitive Doll Collectors group on Facebook. This probably applies to exactly ZERO of you, but on the offchance that you collect primitive dolls, check us out.
As you can see, I’ve been keeping my goals to a smaller amount and more fun for the summer. I might step it back up in the fall, or I might not. It’s kind of nice to put less pressure on myself, but at the same time, the goals really motivate me and I push myself when I have them. We will see! Happy August, everyone!

One messy step at a time still moves you forward.
