📚 What It's About
Casey Samms is a single, 35 year old kindergarten teacher who has had terrible luck with men. Desperate to have a baby, she’s decided to give up dating to pursue insemination by an anonymous donor. While none of her family or friends seems to support this idea, she’s determined to go through with it… until David, a former boyfriend Casey has always regretted dumping, walks back into her life. She’s determined to make it work with him this time around, to have both love and a baby, until life surprises her in a very unexpected way.
📝 My Review
I thought this story was very interesting, and I like that it broached the subject of artificial insemination, not something you often read about in novels. It was very interesting to read about how Casey came to that decision, and the reactions she received from her loved ones. I also really liked the setting of where Casey lived. She lived in a large house with three of her friends, and it sounded like quite a fun set up to me! The characters were strong, with very distinct personalities. I felt strong reactions to several of them, particularly her self-centered, soon to be married friend, Brit (she was so rude!). There were a lot of things I really enjoyed about this novel!
One downside was that it was somewhat slow moving for me. I think it felt that way because I had a hard time relating to Casey and this story. While I plan on having babies of my own someday, I’m not yet at the stage where Casey is, who is quite desperate to get pregnant and right now. I think if I had been at that stage in my life, I would have enjoyed this novel better. I’m definitely going to pass this on to my pregnant sister-in-law next – I think she’ll love it because she will totally be able to relate to Casey!
Holly Kerr is definitely a talented writer, and even though I didn’t click 100% with this particular story, I will definitely read whatever else she writes!
