📝 My Review
The Billionaire Wins the Game is the first in the Billionaire Bachelors series about a family of, you guessed it... billionaires! This was another Kindle freebie that I scooped up to read at the gym, which is one of the only times I actually use the Kindle. Anyway, I wasn’t expecting a whole lot from this story, just a fluffy romance read, but I was pleasantly surprised to find myself really enjoying it!
This story revolves around Amy Harper, a recent college graduate looking for a career. She was raised under harsh circumstances and is used to working hard for everything and never having a family to depend on. Enter Joseph Anderson, ridiculously wealthy business owner with a huge heart and love for family. He’s decided he wants his sons to get married and provide him with grandbabies and the sooner the better. He finds Amy at a job fair and decides she is perfect for his son, Lucas. He hires Amy to be Lucas’ new secretary in hopes that they will fall in love.
Since this is a romance, you already know that Lucas and Amy end up falling in love… eventually. Lucas is brooding, demanding, and bossy, while Amy is meek, sweet, and not having any of that! The two are constantly in a power struggle and the tension between them could be cut with a knife. Eventually, they find a way around these problems but with a lot of bumps along the way.
While this story was mostly predictable and cliche, I started to get really into it! I truly enjoyed the story and the interplay between Lucas and Amy. While Lucas was a total alpha male, and some might argue, an a*shole, I didn’t let it bother me because it made for some interesting situations. I know a lot of women might be upset reading about him because he was so bossy and domineering, so be forewarned, but I didn’t let it bother me.
Another aspect of the story I really enjoyed was the family dynamic. Joseph and his wife were loving, kind, and nurturing, and they provided Amy with the family she never had. They placed a lot of value and emphasis on what it means to be a family. I enjoyed watching Amy fall in love not only with Lucas, but with the family, too.
I think another reason I enjoyed this story so much was the pure escapism factor. For a little while, I got to live inside the world of the Andersons, a billionaire family with a huge corporation. It was a fascinating world that I know exists for some rare people, and I liked taking a glimpse – it was fun!
I must note that there were a lot of grammatical errors and such with the novel. The writing truly was not great in those terms, and while this usually bothers me, I decided to just sit back and enjoy the actual story line and ignore the errors as best I could.
All in all, I think if you’re a romance fan, you’ll really enjoy this one too if you look past the errors, and are not bothered by alpha males. Just enjoy it for what it is… a silly, predictable, yet addictive romance! I must admit, I immediately went and bought the next two books in the series for my Kindle (they always get you with those free ones!).
