Fall is upon us… my favorite season and time of year. As soon as it’s September, I’m all “fall fall fall,” even though it technically isn’t even fall yet. We had a few cooler days last week though and I was loving it. We’re back up in the 80s this week, but I know it won’t be long before we’re back to scarf and sweater weather… yesssss.
Summer is nice for its own reasons, but I’ve just never been a real fan of the heat. You can usually find me sitting in the air-conditioned house reading when we visit my grandmother in Florida. I guess I’m not really outdoorsy either. Oops.
Since I made a summer bucket list (and only accomplished a few of the items on it!), I decided I’d make one for the fall too. This time of the year all the way through New Year’s is my absolute favorite time of year. I’m really looking forward to doing a lot of these things with Caleb for the first time since it’s his first fall and then holiday season. For now though, we’ll focus just on the fall things.
- Go to the pumpkin patch and pick pumpkins. A family friend owns an amazing farm where they take you to the patch on a hayride and there are tons of fun activities too. I’m really excited to take Caleb this year!
- Carve pumpkins with Jerry. This isn’t my strong suit, but I’ll be doing it anyway. I want to do some fun designs for Caleb and put them on our front steps!
- Bake! Especially fall things like pumpkin bread, which Jerry and I are planning on making this weekend.
- Go on at least one haunted hayride, maybe even two. They are my absolute favorite! Jerry and I are already making plans with some of our friends to go. Woohoo! I look forward to these all year long.
- Read at least one horror book. It’s a genre I really love but don’t read enough of.
- Watch at least two horror movies. Fun fact: when Jerry and I first started talking, a love of horror movies was one of the first things we found we had in common. We usually pick one popular horror franchise each year for Halloween time and work our way through all the movies. Two years ago was the Halloween series and last year was Scream. Not sure what we’ll be watching this year though! Any suggestions?
- Enjoy all the fall treats (in moderation, of course), like donuts, cider, and hot chocolate.
- Have a fun little Halloween gathering with our family on Halloween with lots of treats and maybe some movies.
- Celebrate Caleb’s first Halloween by dressing him up in his first Halloween costume (cowboy!) and then taking him around throughout the day to show family and friends. We’d also like to have him trick or treat at a few houses.
- Have some fall family photos taken. I’d love to do this in front of a barn or something similar. We were going to have our wedding photos taken at our friend’s farm but it was too wet and rainy! I hope we can get some farm themed family photos though! It’d be a nice consolation prize. 😉 It also comes in handy to have a professional photographer for a dad so I’m sure we can make this one happen!
- Just enjoy this awesome weather by going for walks or runs and then later hanging out in the house with all my fall candles lit, some hot chocolate, and books!
