As a primitive lover, I find a lot of my decor and furniture used. Most of my stuff is either antique or refinished and refurbished old “junk.” With primitives, the more distressed and aged, the better!
It’s been a lot of fun decorating my house in this style because you can’t really walk into any old store and find what you’re looking for in mass quantities. Most of my pieces are one of a kind and I had to search for them either at craft/antique co-ops, thrift stores, garage sales, or online sale sites.
I love thrifting in general and buy more than just furniture and decorations. I’ve found nice purses, cute clothes, and all kinds of other goodies through my thrifting adventures. I decided to start sharing some of my finds here. I didn’t know quite where or how to start since I have so many things that I found through thrifting, so I decided to start with my dining room and some of my bigger pieces in there. I’ll share other things in the months to come besides just furniture, but this is a start! I apologize that the photos aren’t the greatest; I have plans to get a nice camera in the near future!
This is one of my favorite finds EVER! I found this corner shelf on Craigslist for a whopping $25. It’s made out of an antique door. I love the really old, distressed look and vintage handle.
Next up is my country style black hutch with a bit of distressing that I LOVE! I had a really ugly hutch in my dining room and had been wanting a nicer one for awhile when I stumbled upon this one on Craigslist for $120. In general, primitive and country decor is either really cheap (especially when it’s old) or really expensive (when it’s newly made). This one is a newer piece made of really quality wood. The seller originally paid around $250 for it at a co-op, so it was a steal for me. The inside cupboards open up for storage. I’ve got some dishes and kitchen wares in there, though it doesn’t hold a ton. The crow vase on there was also a Craigslist find for $25.
This is a nice little cabinet that I found at a garage sale YEARS ago for around $20. One of the cabinets swings open and one pulls down. It’s had several uses for me over the years. I first used it as a TV stand with DVDs inside. Then, I used it in my bedroom with books and decor on top and sweaters inside. Most recently, it’s been relocated to my dining room with books and decor on top again and some kitchen supplies inside.
This old cabinet was another Craigslist find for $25. The front of the door and the sides are decorated with what appears to be wallpaper. The rest of the cabinet is painted black with a brown top and slight distressing. The inside has pull out drawers that are great for storage and the bottom pulls out as well.
That’s it for this week and my thrifting finds in the dining room. I’ll share some more of my finds in the coming weeks.
