ONE.
Aside from my car not starting, I had a pretty good weekend last week! On Saturday, Caleb won a free semester of music class! Hooray! He goes to our local chapter of Music Together (a national organization with special training for teachers). So his winter semester that starts in mid-January will be free which saves us A LOT of money. This will be his third semester and he LOVES it. Then on Sunday, I won a free ice cream cake from Abbotts. SCORE! I’m picking it up this weekend.
TWO.
Caleb saw Santa last week. While he didn’t cry, he wasn’t a fan… again. Check out the picture. On the left is Caleb with Santa in 2015 and on the right is Caleb with Santa this year. Same outfit, same unhappiness. Maybe next year?
THREE.
I’ve mentioned a million times that my aunt and I have season tickets to our local theater. We typically see around five musicals a year, and on Tuesday, we saw a special show unlike any of the musicals or plays we’ve been to: Cirque Dreams Holidaze. LOVED IT! The things these people can do with their bodies (fly through the air! Balance on really high things! Hold people on their heads!) is absolutely amazing.
FOUR.
Tonight is my Lularoe party… yassss! I’m really excited because even though I own a ton of Lularoe, it’s mostly leggings and shirts. I can’t wait to finally try on some dresses. I hope I earn some free stuff, but that wasn’t my motivation to have a party. I just thought it’d be a fun girl’s night to try on pretty clothes and have some snacks. FIVE.
Christmas, y’all! Let’s talk about it, shall we? How is your Christmas season going? I’m almost done with Christmas shopping – just need to pick up a few last minute gifts next week when I get paid. I’m also on my third Christmas book of the season with plans to squeeze in one more when I’m done with that. Here are my 2016 Christmas reads:
- Twelve Days of Christmas by Debbie Macomber: really cute, easy, fun and, festive. I enjoyed it a lot and read through it very quickly. The blog growing so quickly was unrealistic (ha!), and being a Christmas book, it was cheesy… but I just had a fun time with it and didn’t really care about those things. I love feel-good reads like this one and highly recommend it! 4/5 stars
- The Mistletoe Inn by Richard Paul Evans: I LOVE Richard Paul Evans. All in all, I thought this book was an enjoyable and quick read, but it’s been my least favorite of all of his offerings. I thought it was pretty glum and did a lot of explaining and telling instead of showing, especially in the epilogue where the narrator just quickly wraps up the story with brief explanations. While the story had depth and meaning to it, I didn’t find it to be as touching and impactful as his other novels. I’m glad I read it and I would recommend it to fans of his, but it’s not one of his best. Perhaps I’m rating this one a bit harshly because I typically have such high expectations for him, but I’d say that ultimately, it’s an enjoyable read with a few drawbacks. 3/5 stars
- A Shoe Addict’s Christmas by Beth Harbison: this is my current read. I’m not very far yet but I’m enjoying it. I read her Shoe Addicts series years ago and LOVED it.
- The Mistletoe Secret by Richard Paul Evans: this will be my next read and likely my last Christmas book of the year.
