Hi guys! Didn’t mean to disappear this week, but you know how it goes during the holidays. I wanted to do a special little Christmas edition of Five on Friday so I could kind of capture what this Christmas season has been like for our little family.
ONE.
This is Caleb’s third Christmas! He’s almost (but not quite) three, and still doesn’t quite grasp the whole Christmas and Santa concept yet. Nevertheless, he’s seen Santa a few times this year (and has no idea what the hell is going on). We just got him a few small gifts this year since he’s clueless still. I think next year will be the year he finally starts to “get it” and gets excited.
I will say though that there are some things about the season that he’s loving, even if he doesn’t know what it’s all for. He’s been loving listening and dancing to Christmas music! I’ve long been a fan of the Glee Christmas albums and Lady Antebellum’s, so we’ve been rocking out to those. I play them through the TV and when I shut it off the other day on accident, he stopped and yelled “NOOOOOO.” He’s also been loving the Christmas train at our local mall and has gone 3 or 4 times this year. He’s been a big fan of the tree, too. He likes to sit under it and often points to it, saying “tee! tee!” He even has a tiny one in his bedroom.
TWO.
Jerry has over two weeks off for the holiday and I’m really, really loving it. A lot of people take for granted a “normal” work schedule, but he works 5 pm to 1 am, and it’s always nice when he’s off and we get to spend the evenings as a family. A lot of times that means he’s gaming and I’m reading or watching a show, but it’s just so nice that he’s home. I also enjoy the nights when we cook together and watch a movie together. It’s been so nice.
THREE.
I’ve made it a point to make myself sit down and relax most nights with a Hallmark movie and my Christmas books. I’m on a roll and am currently on movie number 7. I usually only watch a couple a year, but this year, I wanted time for me. I just LOVE these cheesy movies. My favorite one so far of 2017 has been The Mistletoe Inn, which is based on the amazing Richard Paul Evans book. The movies I’ve watched so far are:
- A Gift to Remember (6/10 rating)
- Christmas at Holly Lodge (6/10)
- A Bramble House Christmas (5/10)
- The Mistletoe Inn (8/10)
- The Runaway Christmas Bride (2/10… awful! This wasn’t Hallmark, it was Ion)
- Christmas Next Door (7/10)
- Marry Me at Christmas (5/10)
My Christmas books for the year are:
- Merry and Bright by Debbie Macomber (8/10)
- The Noel Diary by Richard Paul Evans (currently reading)
FOUR.
Christmas weekend plans: I had off work yesterday, and am working a half day today. Tonight, my besties are coming over for pizza and Christmas crafts with Caleb. Tomorrow, I’ll be making some cookies, then Jerry and I are going to see Pitch Perfect 2 with another couple and probably grab some dinner. We also need to wrap gifts!
Sunday for Christmas Eve, we’ll hang out at home in the morning and I’ll make some crockpot hot chocolate. In the evening, we’ll be going to my aunt’s house on my mom’s side. We’re doing a gift card exchange and I’m also making a saran wrap ball game with a prize inside that we played at my work party. Monday morning for Christmas, we’ll let Caleb open gifts at home, then head to my parent’s house for more gifts and breakfast. Dinner is at my aunt’s house on my dad’s side. Another aunt and I usually try to go see a movie on Christmas night, so I’m hoping to do that too this year. We’re thinking of seeing Father Figures.
FIVE.
Speaking of movies, my all time favorite Christmas movie is A Christmas Story. My aunt and I saw the musical last week and it was pretty great! It was very similar to the movie except that it added music. I will say it lacked some of the charm from the movie, but the movie is just so iconic and classic to me that it’d be hard to even come close.
That’s a wrap on my Christmas plans! I’ll be back next week with my usual end of year posts like my year in review and reading stats, along with my favorite books.
I wish you all a wonderful, Merry Christmas, and thank you for your continued love, support, and friendship this year.
