This is an absolutely unprecedented time in all of our lives. Never have we had the opportunity to be at home with no plans, no work, and no obligations for months on end. Some days it sucks, but on most days, I recognize it for what it is to those of us who have stayed healthy and get to stay home: a blessing in disguise.
I am finding it hard to create and stick to a new routine. Some days are completely unproductive, and I go to bed feeling like a slob. On these days, I waste all of my time on the couch, un-showered until 3:00, and I do nothing but scroll my phone and read the news and worry. On other days, I am the queen of productivity. I clean, I work on goals, I sort the house out, I exercise, I get a lot of work done for work, I blog, I read.
It’s okay if some days are lazy and nothing gets done. But I also want to take this time to really work on things I haven’t had time to before. I don’t know how long we’ll be home for, but here are some of the goals I have for this time.
- Clean the kid’s rooms
- Clean the dining room
- Clean our bedroom
- Exercise by walking outside at least three days a week (and get fresh air!)
- Read a lot more than usual
- Catch up on a lot of shows
- Watch tons of movies
- Clean out the fridge
- Clean out the freezer
- Clean out my car
- Sort and organize decor
- Sort and organize crafting supplies
I’ve already started on a lot of these things, but still have a lot more work to do too. I’ve started cleaning the kid’s rooms, and I’ve started sorting and organizing my decor and craft supplies. Twice already, I have filled up a large garbage bag of junk from the kid’s rooms (one for each room), so that’s progress! I’ve also started sorting some craft supplies into totes, with plans to do a lot more, sorted by holiday / season.
On the relaxation side of things, I’ve started to catch up on a number of shows I’ve been wanting to watch for a long time, and have been trying to squeeze in more reading during the day when the kids are busy playing or being quiet enough for me to concentrate. None of my projects noted above are done, or even CLOSE to being done, but they’re in progress, and I’m grateful for that.
What are your goals for this time at home? Are you trying to strike a balance between productivity and relaxation, like I am, or are you leaning more toward one thing over the other? I am really trying hard to be productive AND relax, because normally, I don’t have much time for either when life is normal and I’m working daily.
Be well, friends, and stay safe.
