Weekend Recap

Hey all! Time for another quick recap of our weekend. Here are five things that happened this weekend.

Running and a new record

Caleb and I are still going strong on our 31 miles in October fundraiser challenge, and on Saturday, we did our fastest mile yet! I am still not running the entire mile straight through, but seeing improvements like this, and feeling myself get better and stronger every time is a huge reminder of why I used to love running and why I’m challenging myself to start it up again. Caleb, Jerry, and I are all running in the Turkey Trot (2.5 miles) on Thanksgiving morning this year, and I’m really excited to run my first race in several years (and a first for Caleb). The Turkey Trot was also the first race I ever ran back in 2012 with Jerry and Scott (my old trainer and friend), so I’m feeling all sorts of nostalgic.

Hocus Pocus tradition

Friday night was the annual Hocus Pocus night that I have with my besties Taylor and Katie! We get together every single year without fail to watch it and it’s always a highlight of the Halloween season. This year we went to Katie’s and it was a girl’s only night (Caleb tried to come, but no can do!). Not as cool as the year we got to see Kathy Nimjay (AKA Mary), but lots of fun and laughs as always. I even got a pizza bowl since we did take out for dinner and I can’t really eat real pizza (at least not yet, anyway!).

Dead trees and logs

We got this huge, old dead tree in our yard taken down finally. Had to take a little hit to the savings, but this guy was actually super cheap compared to most, and now we don’t have to worry about it falling on our house or cars or whatever anymore. My aunt also came over to split up most of the logs to use when she’s camping, and Caleb had a blast helping with that. Dangerous? Probably. Fun? Yes. Now I’m in the mood for a fire and s’mores!

Weekend librarian-ing

I had to work yesterday, because we’re open on Sundays from October – May, and it was my first Sunday shift since before COVID, so it’d been awhile. It was super slow, which I don’t always mind, because a day without incidents or problems is always a good one! I’m also working again this Saturday, which means seven days in a row of working. Lucky me! I took vacation for the last week of October though (I prefer my vacation time during Halloween rather than the summer, like most people), so I’m really, really looking forward to that.

New show: Squid Game

Jerry and I started watching Squid Game on Saturday, and it’s definitely worthy of the hype! We’ll probably finish it at some point this week, and then cross our fingers for a season two! It’s wild! I don’t think I ever mentioned another good one that we watched last month: Turning Point, a 9/11 documentary series that’s also on Netflix. I learned A LOT that I never knew or understood before since I was only 12 when 9/11 happened.

What have you been watching? We’re always on the hunt for good shows!
