Get Sh*t Done: October 2019 Goals

Well, I did MUCH better with my September goals than I did with my August goals… still not perfect, but improving. Here’s what happened last month, as well as the plans for October!

September 2019 Goals Recap

❌ Work out 10 times: FAIL. UGH, the lazy has struck, my friends. I took Holden out in the stroller for a few 30 minute walks, but definitely not 10. Sigh.
✅ Do at least one fall activity: Yessss. I cram our September and October weekends with fall activities, and we started off our fall season by going for fry cakes and apple cider at Both Herman’s and Bauman’s. We also went to a new to us place called Powers Market for a family “spooky” hayride. It’s a family friendly nighttime hayride with some spooky animatronics but nothing over the top scary. CALEB LOVED IT! He keeps asking to go back, so we’re going again soon.
Watch one movie in theater: FAIL. It just didn’t happen with our schedules.
✅ Read at least one horror book: While I didn’t FINISH a horror book yet, I started two of them in September that I will finish up soon. I’m marking this one as done.
✅ Bake at least once: Done! I made more cake cookies one weekend, and loaded up brownies another.
❌ Read five books: SO close, but not quite! I finished four, and am working on two others right now. Here’s what I finished, with reviews to come next week!
  • Sorry I’m Late, I Didn’t Want to Come by Jessica Pan
  • Love Poems for Married People by John Kenney
  • Warcross by Marie Lu
  • Elevator Pitch by Linwood Barclay
Watch three movies at home: Yes! We watched:
  • Hell House LLC: Jerry suggested this one because he’d seen it before and thought I’d like it. Understatement, friends. I LOVED IT! One of my new favorite horror movies ever. We watched it on Amazon Prime (not to be confused with regular Hell House… this is Hell House LLC).
  • Killer Klowns from Outer Space: this is an older movie and kind of a cult classic, so Jerry wanted me to see it. I put it on hold from the library and we sat down to watch it and it’s quite laughable. So, so bad with awful effects and acting.
  • The Shining: a classic that I had NEVER seen! Jer and I saw the trailer for Doctor Sleep when we were seeing Ready or Not in the theater, and I wanted to see The Shining first to prep me for that one. All in all, it was great but it took us two nights to get through because HOLY LONG. Thank you, Stephen King, for writing… and writing… and writing…
✅ Total Completed: 4 of 7. Not too shabby!

October 2019 Goals

  • Complete Virtual Pumpkin 5K: My aunt, mom, friend, and I are all signed up for the The Great Pumpkin Run 5K. Since it’s not offered in our city, they offer a virtual version. We got a shirt, bib, and finisher’s medal in the mail (that we are NOT supposed to open until we finish) and we can walk or run it anytime between now and November 11. I am in no shape to run, so I’ll be walking it. I’m really looking forward to doing this with the girls though.
  • Work out seven times: I need to just get over my exhaustion and push myself to work out anyway. In the fall, I really like to do my work outs in the form of walks outside.
  • Watch two more horror movies: our weekends are filling up FAST with all sorts of fall activities and festivals (because I live for this stuff in the fall, okay?!), but I’d like to squeeze in AT LEAST two more horror movies with the hubby.
  • Finish watching Married at First Sight: currently working my way through the latest season of MAFS and want to finish it soon.
  • Read five books: and hopefully most of them will be SPOOKY!
  • Buy a storage shelf: I got some CHEAP storage shelves over the weekend from FB Marketplace to organize my mess decor in our garage / laundry room, and I LOVE THEM. I need several more to finish the job. I’m hoping I can budget for at least one more this month.
  • Get pumpkins: hoping to either pick pumpkins on one of our many fall outings, or just buy some at the store. I usually can convince Jerry to carve one or two of them for Caleb. I suck at it.
  • Mail Halloween cards: my besties and I have a longstanding tradition of mailing each other Halloween cards, even though we all live close by. It’s just nice to get fun mail! Anyway, I picked up the cards already but I still need to go buy stamps and get them in the mail.
…and that’s all she wrote! This month is hella busy. It’s the only time of year that I don’t MIND being busy because I like to attend as many fall-ish things as possible; Jerry can attest to that one. Our 6th wedding anniversary is this month and we have plans for that, as well as many things planned for Halloween and other fall related outings. I debated adding some of these to my goals list, but it seemed like a cop-out because we were already doing them. I plan on writing a wrap up post of all these events after fall ends! Happy October, everyone! My absolute favorite month of the entire year… hence why we got married in October!

One messy step at a time still moves you forward.
