ONE.
My aunt, friend and I saw the musical Come From Away on Tuesday and holy crap. I know I say this quite a bit, but this one is EASILY in my top three favorites now. It’s based on a true story about a small town in Newfoundland where 38 planes were forced to land on 9/11, and how welcoming and kind they were to the thousands of “plane people” who ended up unexpectedly having to stay there for the better part of a week. Honestly, stories like this make me believe in humanity again. Not only did I laugh, but I also was almost moved to near tears at times. It was just so hopeful and well done, and now I really want to go visit there! Also, it makes me long for the post 9/11 days when everyone was kinder to each other, and we all were such proud Americans. There were flags EVERYWHERE for a couple of months. My dad even had one on his car window. 10/10 I would see this production again and again.
TWO.
Jerry’s been trying to convince me to get a cat for years, and I think I’ve finally caved. We’ve seen 4 rescue cats this week though, and every single one of them was petrified of the kids and hid from us the whole time. We’re really struggling to find a cat (adult too, we do NOT want a kitten) who can tolerate both kids AND a senior dog (Dakota is 12 now!). A lot of this week has been spent looking at cats and thinking about cats and CATS CATS CATS. But we’ve also been having moments of doubt when we think… do really want another responsibility? Should we really try and add something else to our budget right now? So we’re kind of wavering a bit right now. We’ll see what happens.
THREE.
Holden has some new baby tricks up his sleeve. He can now wave, clap, and nod his head. They are ALL the cutest things I’ve ever seen. Caleb is still not amused by his brother. Last week, he told me “Holden’s looking at me and I don’t wanna see him!”
FOUR.
Other happenings this week include: Jerry getting super sick from food poisoning. He undercooked his chicken. Vom. Caleb pooping in the potty… once. He’s done this a grand total of about 4 times in the last year and a half of (attempted) potty training. Oh, and the last occurrence is that I am cutting back on my sugar intake. Nothing extreme, but I’d gotten back into the (bad) habit of eating a huge cookie nearly every day because STRESS. Now I am trying to go back to limiting that to only Saturdays, which will be my new cheat day again. I’m allowing myself a little bit of sweets the rest of the week, but nothing massive like a whole cookie. I’ll have a (not so) “fun” sized candy bar, or a couple bites of cookie butter, for example. We’ll see how this goes and how long I can last, but I REALLY need to start getting some of this weight back off now that pregnancies are in the rearview mirror. And I will now apologize that only one of those three points did NOT include bodily fluids.
FIVE.
I’m off work today because I worked last Saturday. I also don’t have my car because I’m getting my brakes done today so the timing worked out well. Jerry ended up taking off too because I still needed to get Caleb to and from school somehow, and I needed his car. Plans for the day include grocery shopping, picking up a hot chocolate bar decorative set I found on Facebook, and preparing for tomorrow’s first annual Girl’s Christmas Cookie Exchange that my friend Denise and I are hosting at my house. We’ve got 12 or so girls bringing cookies to exchange, appetizers to snack on, and homemade hot chocolate that I make every Christmas in the crockpot. Y’all know I’m a cookie monster. I am super looking forward to this and hope things go off without a hitch! And yes, I will still behave about cookies the rest of the week… but Christmas is a time for cookies! The rest of the weekend includes a long overdue hair cut for Dakota, and working a short day on Sunday… and then POOF, there goes my weekend.
That’s five for now — see you in the next chapter.
