It’s been a hot minute since I’ve done a “Loving Lately” post, so I was trying to create a list of the recent things I’ve been loving… but I was coming up short. Instead, I could think of half a dozen (or more!) things that have been driving me crazy, so I decided to roll with it! Today, I present to you (in stark contrast and opposition of Loving Lately)… (Not) Loving Lately. I know, very creative! Here’s a small sampling of the things that have been driving me absolutely batty most recently.
Snow already
My beloved fall appears to have already left us, after just a few glorious weeks. Sigh. You can bet I was mad as hell to wake up to a snowstorm in the first half of November.
Back to the treadmill
I finally got back into the workout groove in September because I could go for walks outside again (I do not enjoy summer walks). I was doing long laps around the neighborhood, listening to podcasts, and enjoying the leaves. Now, if I attempted to walk outside, I’d be sliding all over the damn ice. Back to the treadmill I go… which is much less fun and much less motivating.
Caleb being mean to Holden
When Holden was a newborn, Caleb adored him. He would hold him, kiss him, feed him, say he loved him. Ohhh, those were the days. Everyone warned us that once Holden was mobile, this would all change… and they were absolutely correct. Caleb cannot stand his brother, namely because his brother is always getting into his toys now. He knocks him over frequently, despite constant scoldings, and tells us very often to give him away. Just last week I got the “mom, he’s looking at me” bit that is such a cliche. I was getting them out of their carseats. Holden was smiling at Caleb. In turn, Caleb said to me: “he’s looking at me and I don’t want to see him!” Oh brother.
Holden getting into everything
Caleb did not move until he was nearly 2, so we are not used to mobile babies in this house! Holden grabs for absolutely everything. He dips his hand in the wax warmers, dumps out hot wax, knocks over every beverage ever, puts batteries in his mouth… I feel like all we do all day is say “Holden no!”
Endless harassment from magazine companies
It used to be that if you didn’t want to renew a magazine, you could just write “cancel” and not pay it. I assumed the same would be true. Yeah, no. Apparently not. I’ve received ENDLESS emails and mailings to my house from 2 magazines that I did not auto-renew, and yet they auto-renewed me. This crap is straight up bordering on harassment! I finally went online and figured out how to cancel one, and bit the bullet and paid to renew the other because I kind of like it. UGH.
Paint-able baby
A couple of weeks ago, I was getting ready for work. When I got out of the shower, I was astonished at what I saw: Holden, in his bouncer, with a completely green face. Yep. Caleb took it upon himself to use a paint pen and completely cover the baby. Okay, okay, I’ll admit: I actually found this to be hilarious, but so as not to fail as a parent, I will say this: it was very, very bad. And annoying. (But not really).
Coats not fitting into carseats
They need to invent coats that will fit into carseats. Or carseats that will accommodate coats. Going anywhere in the winter with kids is the WORST and takes twice as long due to coats, boots, blankets, etc. With Holden, I usually end up throwing a blanket around him because coats in carseats are dangerous. I have a little poncho my grandma made, so I might have to break that out for him soon.
Wet floors and socks
Just another awful side effect of the snow. The floors are wet and I go through no less than 2 pairs of socks a day now. Lord help me. I’m moving to Florida to go and live with my GRANDMA!
Alright friends, thanks for listening to me whine. I’m sure there will be more, because things are always ticking me off. Tell me, what’s ticking you off lately?! Please, get it off of your chest in the comments and we can commiserate together!
