ONE.
Caleb had his preschool Christmas pageant on Tuesday evening. They did a very short performance where he played a shepherd, complete with costume. After, they sang a few songs and had a little party with a secret Santa exchange. I was really proud of him. Last year, he didn’t sing or dance or anything. This year, he did. He had to act “afraid” at one point – that was his big scene, and he did it!
TWO.
Sickness STILL abounds in our house. My cold is finally gone, but my ears have been plugged going on two weeks now. I’ve taken antibiotics, Sudafed, and nighttime cold medicine, and nothing is clearing up my ears. I can’t hear really well at all and I’m getting very frustrated. Caleb has a bad cold and cough. Holden has been sick too. He threw up again earlier in the week, then he got a really high fever and began to shiver and have chills. I brought him to the doctor, and they checked him out and said they had no concerns. We just have to keep him medicated to keep his temp down. Jerry is the only one who has escaped the sickness so far!
THREE.
Last weekend, my dad and I took Caleb to a local lighthouse / bed and breakfast for their holiday tour. I went there in the fall for their spooky tour, and each year, they do this holiday one too where you get to walk around and look at the holiday decor in all the rooms. They also had cookies in every room and cider when you walked in. We weren’t there very long, but it was really nice! It’s a really old 1800’s home with so much vintage charm that I love. They decorate it so elegantly. Caleb really behaved and we had just a really nice time.
FOUR.
Alright, I’ma just say it. I’ve long said I don’t care that much about Christmas because I am a Halloween junkie through and through. But this year… I LOVE IT. For the first time since I was little, I actually love it again. I’ve gotten super into Christmas decorating and went and bought a bunch of lights at the dollar store to string all over the house. I’ve been listening to some music here and there. I’ve been looking up Christmas crafts. I’ve been watching the movies (though that part’s not new) and I’m doing ALL the things. I didn’t want to admit that I’d become a Christmas lover again, but I have. I think A LOT of it has to do with the fact that Caleb really gets it this year. He understands who Santa is and is getting excited… which is getting ME excited. It’s fun! On a not so fun note, we had to take down the Christmas tree in the living room after just one day. It was a small tabletop one, and we put it as high as we could, but Holden would not leave it alone, and broke a ton of ornaments. Instead, we put it in his room since he only sleeps in there and can’t get to it from his crib. Caleb also has a small tabletop one in his room… so that’s our Christmas tree situation for the year and I think it’s fine. We’ll try again next year. Gotta go with the flow when you have kids, right? Very hard lesson for me!
FIVE.
My Forever YA book club at work met this week and had a little Christmas gathering and cookie exchange. It was a lot of fun, and we all got some tasty treats. I LOVE cookie exchanges so much now! I only make two desserts for Christmas, so it’s fun to get a variety from exchanges.
So that’s what I’ve got for the week! Tonight’s our Yuletide dinner. Tomorrow we’re going to renew our Costco membership (a gift from Jerry’s brother – thank you). Sunday, I work. What are your plans this weekend? I’m hoping to squeeze in a movie or two at home, and I’m also about seven books behind on my yearly Goodreads challenge of 50 books – ahhh! Can I make it happen?!
P.S. Happy Friday the 13th, fellow horror lovers!
