November ended up being a little less hectic than October was, so it was nice to be able to slow things down a bit. I had quite a bit of time off for Thanksgiving, so that was nice, but both Holden and I ended up getting sick that week. Now here we are, in the full swing of the holidays! Here’s what our November looked like.
Books Read
- The Bakeshop at Pumpkin and Spice by Donna Kauffman & others
- Those Who Came Before by J.H. Moncrieff
- Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn & David Levithan (Forever YA book club)
- The Clothes Make the Girl (Look Fat?) By Brittany Gibbons
What I Watched
Movies:
- Doctor Sleep: I saw this one in theaters (with comfy seating!) with my friend Margaret and it was GREAT! It was so different than I expected, but I loved it.
- Nostalgic Christmas: my first Hallmark Christmas movie of the year. It was cute but nothing special.
- Christmas Scavenger Hunt: another Hallmark Christmas movie that I actually really enjoyed!
Shows:
- Ultimate Thanksgiving Challenge
- Holiday Baking Championship
- The Great Christmas Light Fight
- Impractical Jokers
Podcasts Listened To
- I finally finished Serial (season one) at the beginning of the month. This was my very first podcast (I’m a baby podcaster) and I really enjoyed it. It’ll be hard to beat.
- I started and am almost done with Room 20. This is about a man who has been lying unconscious in a hospital bed for over 15 years with NO identity. He was an illegal immigrant who was in a car accident that put him into a vegetative state. A journalist hears about his story and seeks to find out who he is. This is really interesting, sad, and poignant. Highly recommended!
Exercise
- I walked six times. It was nice enough outside ONCE for an outside walk, and the rest were done on the treadmill.
What We Did
- I saw comedian Chris D’Elia with my brother and sister-in-law. My best friend was also sitting behind us, bahaha. We had great seats (row J!) and he was hilarious. 10/10 would see him again.
- I saw the musical Come From Away with my aunt and friend. It was SO SO SO good! It’s based on a true 9/11 story about a small Newfoundland town that took in hundreds of people who landed there unexpectedly after the attacks. If you ever get a chance to see this one… do it. It says so much about humanity and will restore your hope in the human race. It also had some surprisingly hilarious moments.
- Another highlight of the month was our first ever Girl’s Christmas Cookie Exchange that my friend Denise and I hosted at my house! This will easily go down as one of my all time favorite activities of the year.
- Thanksgiving was good! We went to my mom’s this year. I made my pecan pie, some snickerdoodle cookie bars, and another easy fudge/marshmallow type recipe.
- I left work early one day so that I could see Caleb and his class perform Thanksgiving songs. It was AWESOME. Haha.
- Holden had his very first haircut! He looks so cute and old now!
- I went to Hobby Lobby for the first time ever and I’m pretty sure I’ve found heaven. SO MUCH CUTE DECOR! AHHH!
- Jerry and I started to seriously consider adopting an adult or senior cat. We met several of them, but they were all scared of the kids. We’re going to hold off for now, but it sure was exciting and fun while we were looking!
Random Tidbits
- Caleb experienced a childhood first: writing on the walls. Sigh. He wrote “off” and random scribblings on several of our walls.
- He also colored Holden’s entire face green while I was in the shower getting ready for work one day. It was bad but also hilarious.
- Holden started clapping, waving, and nodding.
- Caleb has decided he loves Lizzo, and makes me play “Truth Hurts” and “Good As Hell” ALL THE TIME. He sings “I don’t love you anymorrrre. Hair toss, Chic-Fil-A” because kids really know how to screw up song lyrics, do they not?
- Holden had a really bad stomach bug the week of Thanksgiving, and threw up a couple of times.
- I got an ear infection / sinus infection around the same time and it’s still hanging around. I ended up going to the doctor this week for antibiotics.
- Caleb came to the library during a couple of my Wednesday night shifts, and I always love having him visit. Jerry brought him in for his first ever LEGO night one week, and my parents brought him in for a fall craft another night.
Coming Up
- Christmas, of course! Caleb is finally old enough to really understand it this year, so I’m excited!
- Jerry and I will be going on our annual Yuletide in the Country Christmas tour and buffet. Can’t wait!
- We’re also taking Caleb on a Christmas tour at the lighthouse / B&B where I went on a spooky tour in October. For the Christmas one, I guess they deck the house out in decor and have cookies in every room.
- Caleb has a Christmas pageant and party at his preschool coming up.
- My Forever YA book club is holding our annual Christmas meeting and we’re all bringing in treats. Should be fun!
- Lastly, I’m looking forward to New Years! We always have a nice dinner at my parent’s house and go to bed way before midnight. We sure know how to party!
