Month in Review: March 2021

Does anyone ever feel like they’re super behind on everything? Because yeah, same. Hence why this month in review is about a week later than I usually post these in the month. Oh well, at least it’s here now, right?

So… March. It was a weird one and it seemed to go by pretty fast. Lately, every month has just felt like a blur, like we’re in some weird time warp while we wait for things to be “normal” again. And we wait. And we wait. And times goes by, and we’re kind of half living and kind of half not. Anyway, that’s where I’m at.

Here’s what our March was like… if I can even remember now!

Happenings and Tidbits

  • Caleb started taking piano lessons! He’s going every Saturday morning, and it’s becoming a fun weekly tradition for us. He’s doing really well according to his teacher (although it’s like pulling teeth trying to get him to practice).
  • I made great progress with my bariatric program! I had my intake physical (in person), my psych evaluation (over the phone), and bloodwork drawn.
  • I got business cards made.
  • Though my migraines have decreased a ton since I started taking Topamax as a preventative, I did have one “migraine weekend.” I tend to have not just one migraine, but a stretch of a migraine, where I get one, but then it lingers for 2-3 days. Not fun.
  • I watched The Last Blockbuster on Netflix and it was SO GOOD! I read about the last store a couple of years ago, and I thought this documentary was really well done. It made me nostalgic, and definitely made me miss the old days when technology didn’t run our lives.
  • We celebrated St. Patrick’s Day at my parent’s with corned beef and cabbage, and Guinness chocolate cake like always. Caleb and the other kids ate popcorn chicken. Ya win some, ya lose some.
  • I successfully completed a "24 Jars in 24 Hours" challenge for my PZ team. That was stressful but also fun... and I sold 24 jars!
  • Speaking of PZ, I ended up having a two-night Blend Bash at the end of March. Yiiiikes. This was originally scheduled for February, but it had to be pushed back to March due to some shipping delays. Welp, there were NO dates in March that everyone could come, so I had to split it into two nights to accommodate everyone, where some ladies came Friday and some came Saturday. It was fun, and I do enjoy smaller groups way better than larger ones, but I was definitely tired. I also had a Blend Bash the following weekend (technically in April at this point), which would have been properly spaced apart because remember, this other one was supposed to be IN FEBRUARY, but alas, they were back to back instead. Oh well. That’s life.
  • We got our taxes done early in the month, and by the end of the month, had received both our tax refund AND our stimulus check, and let me tell you… it’s been such a freeing feeling to see our savings account so high again! The last time it was this high was after our wedding / before buying our house. It’s a huge weight lifted off our shoulders. Some of you might recall the incident I wrote about with our home purchase and my “grandfather.” Anyway, ever since we purchased our home, our tax refund had to go to him every damn year. This was the first year we got to KEEP it, so for the first time as homeowners and in our entire married life, we were finally able to really get ahead and boost our savings again by a substantial amount. We should really be able to bolster it and keep the ball rolling yearly now with our refund, and what a RELIEF!!!
  • We had a couple of nice, warm days! My parents brought the kids to the Storywalk and playground on my work’s campus and then brought them in to visit me, so that was fun!
  • CALEB LOST HIS FIRST TOOTH!!! He got $5 from the Tooth Fairy and then immediately lost it. I had to text my dad and have him pretend to be the Tooth Fairy telling him that he would replace it. Good news is, Caleb found it a few days later.
  • Beverly Cleary died. That was terrible news. I cannot state enough how much I feel she impacted the trajectory of my life and my life choices. I’m not the kind of person who posts all over social media when someone dies and suddenly acts like their biggest fan. In fact, that stuff kind of irritates me because it’s phony. This one was a hard hit for me for real, though. She greatly impacted my life and the world. Some of my fondest memories will always be of of my mom and me reading Ramona together when I was a kid. I’ve written about Beverly Cleary numerous times if anyone is interested: (Post 1) (Post 2
  • Better news… Caleb and I saw a double rainbow. It didn’t last long, and he was the one who first noticed it when we were driving one evening. Very cool to see!
  • One morning I told Caleb to go get some clothes from his room, and instead he came out totally dressed. His pants were a little short and he didn’t really match, but it was the first time he had dressed himself with no help. He said “look, I did something new today.” One of those moments as a parent where you feel both proud and sad.

Coming Up in April

  • Easter and a three day weekend (already happened).
  • Another Blend Bash (already happened).
  • Working my first weekend shift since March of 2020! The last time I worked a weekend, I was there on a Saturday. On that day, we had our first confirmed COVID case in town. Everyone was buzzing and starting to panic. The next week we came in, and shit hit the fan. That same week, we closed and didn’t come back until May. Our hours have been reduced ever since. They are STILL reduced, but we’re opening for a few hours on Saturdays now. Not gonna lie, I’m not excited because I’ve loved having weekends off, but it was going to happen at some point!
  • I have my first nutrition appointment with my new bariatric program! No surprise, it will be over the phone.
  • Oil change and new tires for my car. Much overdue and needed!
