Happy-ish Monday, everyone! This weekend was quite a crazy (read: busy) one for us, so I thought I might as well try and write it all down. Hope you all had a nice weekend wherever you are. Here’s what we were up to.
Hung out with the besties!
After Caleb’s piano lesson on Saturday, we had plans with my two best girls Taylor and Katie! We headed to Taylor’s for lunch, and Caleb hung out with Tay’s son. Her son is actually Holden’s age, but the age gap between him and Caleb meant that they played so well together! When Holden is present, he generally causes chaos because he is a turdler. He didn’t come this time because we went straight from piano. Anyway, it had been way too long since we’d gotten together, so we spent most of our time just talking and watching the boys play. They even HUGGED! UGH, it was too freaking cute.
A new big boy bed!
My mom and dad came over to help us with some projects, the main one being that we needed to get Holden’s new toddler bed set up and the crib taken down. Yup, that’s right, he’s only two and wasn’t ready at all for a bed (in my opinion), but he broke his crib by jumping in it repeatedly like the beast that he is. I’ll be honest, it was a little sad to see the crib go. It was Caleb’s crib and then Holden’s crib and now it’s at the curb. We had a good 6+ years with it though, and I just need to remind myself that it’s only bedroom furniture, and just because it’s gone, my memories are not. Sigh. Anyway, Jerry and my dad worked on that, and my mom and I worked on my Pink Zebra stuff because I had A LOT to do. The next project will be to find Holden a new dresser. Just like the crib, it’s 6+ years old because it was Caleb’s first, and has also bitten the dust! I’ve been scouring Marketplace for a dresser but we don’t have a truck and my dad got rid of his, so it makes it harder to pick up furniture now. Hopefully we can arrange something soon. I’ll keep looking at Marketplace though because I prefer vintage furniture when I can find it! Caleb has two vintage dressers and so do I. Another project we have is to put together some shelves we bought for Caleb’s room. That’ll be soon I hope.
So much blending!
As I mentioned, while the guys were working on the furniture, my mom and I were really busy working on my Pink Zebra stuff. I had A LOT of orders to work on and boxes to open and sort. I think I received around eight boxes last week? They were all local bulk orders and then some new scents I ordered in. I really don’t have time during the weekdays, so I do most of my PZ “work” on the weekends, and when I get really backed up (which only happens on occasion), my mom comes to help. We worked on my monthly scent club, several blends I had taken orders for, bulk orders, VIP boxes, loyalty rewards, and started on a virtual Blend Bash. We got a lot done, but still didn’t quite finish. WHEW!
Watched some documentaries
My favorite things to watch are reality TV, true crime shows, and documentaries. This weekend, that’s pretty much all I watched. I got an email from Netflix on Friday about a new documentary called Why Did You Kill Me? and was so intrigued that I watched it that very night. Meh. It was okay, but it was not nearly as good as I had hoped. Kind of boring and not what I expected. Also continued watching Challenger: The Final Flight on Netflix. I’m not done with it yet, but it’s really interesting. I’ve always been fascinated with space so I was eager to watch this one too. Overall, I’m enjoying it and learning a lot, but it’s not super gripping. I think it’s a little too science-heavy for the average person and kind of wish they would’ve dumbed down some of the explanations a bit. Other than that, it’s good, but just taking a bit for me to get through because it’s a lot to digest and a little slow-going. The best thing I watched this weekend BY FAR was Framing Britney Spears, the documentary on Hulu (FYI: I had a hard time finding it, because it’s actually part of a series called The New York Times Presents). I thought it was fascinating and super well done. First, it made me so nostalgic… and then when it got into her later years, it made me so sad. I didn’t realize how her life had veered so wildly off and that her dad was controlling her every move, basically. I’d been wanting to watch this one for awhile and I’m glad I finally did.
A McDonalds surprise
On Sunday evening, Caleb and I went to the McDonalds drive thru for some Sprite and ice cream. I quit Diet Coke again a few weeks back… long story short, I can’t have it after surgery anyway, but more importantly, caffeine and aspartame are sometimes migraine triggers for me. After a particularly bad three-day migraine triggered by Diet Coke a couple weeks ago, I threw in the towel on it. I never knew WHEN it would be a trigger and I was rolling the dice every time I drank it, so I finally decided it wasn’t worth it. Now I’m occasionally drinking Sprite to satisfy the craving so I don’t go crawling back to Diet Coke. The goal is to quit ALL soda very soon. Anyway, back to the story… our total was just under $10 and when we rolled up to pay, we were told that the person in front of us had paid for our order and a couple of other orders behind us! What a pleasant surprise! It made my day because the world totally sucks right now. It seems like everyone hates each other and there is tension all over the country, and COVID sucks, and the world is scary right now. This was a reminder that there is still some good in the world.
Anyway, that was our weekend. It was very, very busy and productive. I didn’t even get to take a nap.
