What's Up Wednesday (5): April 2021

I know the official What’s Up Wednesday link-up isn’t today, but I’m just doing my own thing because it’s a Wednesday, I had some random thoughts, and so… here I am!

What we’re eating

I had a phone appointment with my new dietitian recently, so I’m working on incorporating some of the changes we talked about and cutting way back on my sugar intake… again. Also, what I am NOT eating (drinking) is Diet Coke! The last one I drank was on April 4, and then I had a 3-day migraine, so I quit! I’ve been tempted many times, but I won’t do it! Yay for me! I’ve got my next phone appointment with her in May and I need to write up a food diary and also write up sample meal plans for the different stages of eating for after surgery, so I’ll be working on those soon, too! OH! What we are eating that is fun… Jerry works at a college, and they have a student restaurant there for the cooking / hospitality students, and they offer different heat and eat meals every week. We get those every Friday and they are so freaking good. This week, we’re getting chicken and biscuits, so I’m pretty excited for that. Ha.

What I’m reminiscing about

This week has been a little sad because we threw away the crib that we had for both of the boys and got Holden into his toddler bed, and Caleb transitioned to four days a week in person kindergarten from two days. My boys are getting older, and I love it because baby days are hard and exhausting, and they’re really developing personalities and becoming so fun… but it’s also sad. It’s always sad when they reach new milestones, along with being exciting.

What I’m loving

Even though I’ve had to start working occasional Saturdays again (usually one or two a month), I usually get to take Caleb to his piano lessons on Saturday mornings (Jerry takes him if I’m working). It’s just been a fun thing for us to do together and he’s doing well with it. I sit in the coffee shop and grab a drink during his lesson, then we tend to run an errand or two after (usually always stopping at the bakery for him to spin the Saturday prize wheel).

What I’m dreading

I have to get an endoscopy and colonoscopy next month as a pre-op thing for my surgery. I wasn’t really nervous about the endoscopy, but the colonoscopy and the prep… yikes. I am really, really apprehensive.

What we’ve been up to

Everything, it feels like. As in introvert and highly sensitive person, I get very easily overwhelmed (I’ve talked about it quite a bit), and absolutely require alone time / time at home. This has been the silver lining to COVID. Things have been canceled, and we’ve all been “forced” to stay home, aside from work and essential things. Life is starting to get back to normal, and of course I appreciate it, but it also means my schedule is filling up yet again, and I’m starting to stress yet again. Tons of appointments for surgery, vehicle appointments, dog grooming, plans with lots of friends because we can finally see each other, and SATURDAY work shifts again (UGH). These are mostly GREAT things, but like I said, I just get overwhelmed and allow myself to get worked up into a state of internal anxiety when I see no free time on the horizon. Anyway, long story short, we have been up to a lot.

What I’m working on

As always, attempting to get organized. I WANT to be an organized person, but I’m not one naturally, and then add on the fact that I have brain fog recently due to my Topamax (migraine meds), and I’m struggling a lot. I am forgetting things often and feeling completely messy. I downloaded a checklist app on my phone, and that’s helping a bit with remembering what I need to get done and when. As always, I’m trying to organize my Pink Zebra supplies themselves (currently all over my tables and dining room furniture), but also how to operate my little business in better ways. Also working on getting a lot of nagging little tasks out of the way: we got oil changes on our cars, I got new tires, now I also need wiper blades and to get my brakes looked at. I booked a dog grooming appointment, need to pack up some things to mail, get to the post office, take another online defensive driving course for our insurance discount, and schedule a carseat appointment with the fire house. Whew. This is part of my checklist.

What I’m excited about

I had some custom vinyl decals and also shirts made for my Pink Zebra business, just for fun! I’m thinking about putting the stickers onto cups or water bottles, most likely. I also am loving my new logo and branding that I had done for my business. It looks really nice and professional. I’m also excited that the movies theaters are opening back up around here! Now I just need to find time to actually go to the theater, and find a movie that both Jerry and I would like. This is usually horror.

What I’m watching

I’m usually either binge watching one show at a time, or just watching random things. Right now I’m on that random thing kick. Been watching a fair amount of true crime and documentaries, especially on Netflix. I’m enjoying I Am a Killer, because duh.

What I’m reading

For my virtual mystery book club that I run at work… Bait and Witch by Angela Sanders. It’s the first in a cozy mystery series and it’s about a librarian, so it’s obviously up my alley.

What I’m doing this weekend

Three of my friends are coming over for dinner on Saturday night, and then another girlfriend and I are hoping to get together at some point over the weekend so Caleb and her son can meet and play together. They’re very similar so we think they’d get along well! Jerry and I also have a trip to Home Depot planned at some point. We bought a water dispenser (that was exciting!), and we already went through our first five gallon jug in like… three days (doesn’t help that the kids figured out how to use it), so we need more water. He also wants to look at riding lawn mowers.

What I’m looking forward to next month

I run a Forever YA book club at work, but we’ve been on hiatus for 13 MONTHS thanks for COVID! Our library has been re-opened since last May, but we have still not been able to resume in-person programs. The girls and I have all become friends and we miss each other, so while we wait to hear when we can restart in-person programming, we decided to meet up independently to hang out and just catch up! We’re going out for brunch, so that’ll be a lot of fun! That’s the only thing nice on my May calendar so far…

What else is new

It’s snowing today. Yeah. WTF. On another note, I’ve had a bit of a battle with Caleb’s PE teacher and art teacher because he received grades of 2 and 1 on his report card. I spoke to both of them AND the principal, and they are all aware of his previous work with an occupational therapist (due to fine motor skill delays with his hands). However, despite him doing all of his work, they still graded him like crap because of skills that he struggled with that are DUE TO HIS HANDS (throwing, catching, drawing… also GALLOPING LMAO!). I am completely over them and fed up, and have made it clear that I will advocate for him and that I think it’s BS that they want to grade a KINDERGARTEN CHILD harshly, despite knowing he has a motor skill delay. I think his principal is great for the most part, and he did speak to the teachers, but kind of said there wasn’t anything he could do about the grades. The teachers were very unwilling to do much of anything except try and justify things. The gym teacher was okay, but the art teacher was pretty condescending. Sigh.

Anyway, that’s what’s up on this fine, snowy Wednesday! Hope you’re all staying warm!
