Well, my April in review is three weeks late, and that’s basically life in a nutshell lately. Things have been busy, hectic, and chaotic. Take me back to last April when I was bored as hell and stuck at home because of the COVID lockdown. HA! I knew during those days though that I would miss it, so I tried not to take it for granted. I wasn’t home for nearly as long as most people were. I went back to work fully in mid-May, so I soaked up my time home for a few weeks and then back to work I went.
Anyway, life is essentially back to the ol’ status quo for us, and that is busy, busy, busy. Here’s what our April looked like, though it’s kind of hard to remember at this point!
Happenings & Tidbits
- Had a Blend Bash at the beginning of the month. It was the second weekend in a row with Blend Bashes. Fun as always, but nice to take a break for a little while after two back to back!
- Caleb KIND OF understood April Fool’s Day. He threw a sock at me and thought it was a trick. He planned to turn the lights off at Mimi’s house. He did have one good trick though, which was to put crayons in an empty cocoa container.
- Replaced the tires on my Jeep… good bye $800!
- Easter was fun. The kids were running when they saw their baskets of candy. We stayed home because my brother had some COVID in his house, and celebrated the weekend after with the family by enjoying festive homemade Easter garbage plates at my parent’s house. The day of Easter though, it was just us four. Caleb wanted KFC for lunch, so that’s what he got. He also wanted to make his first ever Pink Zebra blend, and he did a great job of making “Honeysuckle Apples.”
- I had my first appointment (over the phone) with my new dietician for my bariatric program! It went pretty well!
- I had some major issues with Caleb’s school and their “report cards.” His gym teacher gave him a two and his art teacher gave him a one. Yeah…. hell no. I emailed his kindergarten teacher, his principal, and the gym and art teachers. First, why are they grading kindergarteners PERIOD? Second, why are they grading kindergarteners who are in school during a pandemic and who have been primarily doing online / HYBRID learning? And third, JUST NO! They are all well aware of his motor skill delays and the fact that he received OT for several years leading up to kindergarten. The skills that these two teachers said he is unable to do well (which include GALLOPING WTF) all directly relate to motor skills and I told them that. The principal even told me that teachers at this age should be grading on effort, not on skill, and yet here we are. I went back and forth with all of them for at least a week. There was ultimately no resolution that satisfied me, nor did I really care about getting his grades changed. My point was to MAKE a damn point. Take each kid and their individual abilities into consideration. I am telling you as his mother what he is currently capable of and not. And also… don’t mother effing grade kindergarteners… especially ones who are experiencing kindergarten during a pandemic from home 90% of the time and trying to learn from a laptop! Now granted, he did start going INTO school in February a couple of days a week, so that means, what… these teachers saw him a couple of times? Caleb is the highest level reader in his class, so I’m going to reiterate exactly what I said on Facebook regarding my thoughts on his gym teacher: when Caleb’s a millionaire, because he’s a genius… he’s gonna gallop right by your house, ya mofo!!!
- On more positive school notes,
CalebI (lmao) did an online fundraiser for school and raised $95. Yay! He also said on a day that cheese pizza was on the menu: “I just want to get to school because I like lunch.” Hey, whatever works. - Big news for Holden too: he moved out of his crib and into a toddler bed! The first week was interesting, but also went a lot smoother than expected. I found him on the floor several times a night for the first little while, but that stopped once I bought him a longer bed railing. I also expected the transition to go horribly, with him screaming, crying, and getting out of bed, but that didn’t happen even once! Color me shocked! Caleb transitioned amazingly too when he moved into a bed. Hallelujah!
- We bought a new riding lawn mower.
- One day, a friendly black cat followed us into our house. We contacted an animal rescue group. They asked us some questions and determined it was best to let it go. Because it was friendly, not hungry, and not injured, they said it was likely a neighbor’s cat who gets let outside and would just go back home. It was an interesting hour or so. Lol.
- I hit 20K in YTD sales in April for Pink Zebra and made it on a couple of top 50 lists company-wide which is mind blowing to me. Very good month!
Coming Up in May
So this is where I should have talked about the things I have planned for May… except May is already almost over. Oops. I checked my calendar, and there’s not anything else coming up for the rest of the month. Let’s see, so far in May we’ve had a couple of family birthdays, Mother’s Day, LOTS of happenings in my bariatric program, brunch. It’s been busy! I’ll save all this for May in Review.
And that’s a wrap on April…. and May is almost already over! Yikes!
