Weekend Recap

Hi, hello, what’s up? I didn’t mean to disappear! Life has been hectic, but this past weekend was one for the books, so here I am to talk about it. Y’all, I don’t even firetruckin’ remember what we did Friday after work because the rest of the weekend was a little traumatizing for me… oh, and so was Thursday. I ran out of gas for the first time in my life. I made it to within actual walking distance of my work and the gas station, but my dad still had to come because I didn’t have a gas can. HA! That sucked. The weekend wasn’t much better because it was spent as a prelude to my first ever colonoscopy and endoscopy (the mouth guard was surprisingly not bad at all, probably about as comfortable as clear teeth aligners). So here’s what all went down!

I TRIED to work… then ended up at urgent care!

I was scheduled to work Saturday morning, but I only got through about an hour and a half. I had a bad migraine and it wasn’t going away, even after taking my Sumatriptan. I decided not to suffer at work and went home and suffered some more, taking a second dose to no avail. I was in a ton of pain and super nauseous all day until I finally couldn’t take it anymore. Jerry had prepared a nice dinner and dessert for me for Mother’s Day and I couldn’t even stomach the idea of eating it. It sucked so bad. I finally caved and went to urgent care. In all 16 years of being a migraine sufferer, I have never gone to the hospital or urgent care, and I wonder why I waited this long because it worked out well. At first they tried to get me to go to the ER and made it sound like they weren’t going to help me. I told them I wouldn’t go to the ER though and THEN they told me they could give me a pain shot of Toradol which helped immensely, and worked within 15 minutes. I’ve never had it before, but it was a miracle. I certainly don’t foresee myself rushing off every time I have a migraine, but I do occasionally get these very severe ones that won’t go away, and instead of being my typical stubborn self who refuses help, I definitely will consider it again in the future. I am also speaking to my primary care doctor about seeing a neurologist again. I saw one years ago and think it’s a good idea, because they would be more up to date on the newest migraine medications.

Had a lovely Mother's Day dinner

After I returned home from urgent care, I finally felt well enough to eat my Mother’s Day dinner, which was alfredo, followed by a new dessert Jerry made: cookie dough brownie cheesecake pie. LOL. It was all very delicious and I’m glad I got to eat something so good before my day of no food in preparation for my colonoscopy. My two procedures were scheduled for Monday, which meant Sunday was a day of prep, which meant no Mother’s Day celebrating or food on ACTUAL Mother’s Day for me. Womp Womp.

Prepped for procedures and STARVED!

Okay, I am being a little dramatic here. I suppose I should also back up a little too. An endoscopy is a pre-op requirement for the program I’m in for bariatric surgery, and the colonoscopy was also for my surgery. That one isn’t required for everyone like the endo is, but they wanted me to do that one for an unrelated issue. I absolutely did NOT want to do it and have been anxious and dreading it since they brought it up in March. UGH! Anyway, the endo doesn’t really require much prep, but colonoscopy prep is pretty infamous, am I right? I couldn’t eat anything and could only have clear liquids for over 24 hours. Plus, I had to drink an AWFUL laxative beverage called Clenpiq twice throughout the day. This HORRID drink ended up being the absolute worst part of it all because of the taste. Everything else was easier than I had expected and I felt like I had worked myself up unnecessarily. Anyway, I wasn’t really starving, obviously, because I had to drink 64+ ounces of fluids throughout the day, but I sure was a LITTLE hungry. LOL. I’ll have another post up soon in my Steph Gets Skinny series about all of this.

Celebrated my mom then ran around like crazy

Sunday morning before my first dose of the horrible laxative, Caleb and I went and picked up bagels for my mom and brought her a little Mother’s Day gift. I had to stare at the delicious handmade bagels while I sipped and grimaced over my laxative and gagged. I bought her some nail wraps as a gift. We tend to like different styles of wraps, so it was a little challenging but also fun to pick some out for her! Before the laxative kicked in, I had to run to Target to pick up some stuff that I would need throughout the miserable day. I rushed because I knew I had to beat the clock. I also needed to stop at Walmart. They were slow as usual and I thought I wouldn’t make it, but I got home right on time before a real emergency happened. HA.

Started watching Unsolved Mysteries, Volume 2

I watched the first volume as soon as it came out last year and absolutely loved it! Been meaning to watch the second one for months now, but just finally got around to it this weekend since I felt awful and couldn’t do much else. Gotta say… a bit disappointed so far but still liking it overall.

  • Episode 1: pretty good. Political guy found dead but no one knows who killed him or why. He suffered from mental illness and was seen on surveillance camera looking disheveled and confused. No one knows what happens after the footage. Footage and surveillance like this always intrigues me because we are literally seeing someone’s last moments, and it’s eerie. I like looking for clues in it. However, political killings in general are a little less intriguing than most because yeah, people go a little crazy over politics, so we can probably guess this was politically motivated. Yeah, it is a mystery, but kind of not. That’s why I liked it, but it wasn’t a favorite.
  • Episode 2: really good! Woman checks into a hotel in 1995 and is found dead in her room three days later. To this day, she has never been identified. It was ruled a suicide, but it seems more likely to have been a homicide… except that her door was locked from the inside. All other evidence indicates homicide though. Such a true unsolved mystery in SO many ways. Who is she? How did she die? What was the motive? Why has no one ever identified her? So eerie.
  • Episode 3: pretty dumb. A freaking rapist / murderer was allowed to leave prison to go Christmas shopping in 1973 with a bunch of other prisoners and then doesn’t RETURN! They call this an escape. He didn’t escape! YOU LET HIM OUT WTF?! This isn’t a mystery! How did he escape? HELLO! Where is he? Living with his family somewhere and they’re not going to turn him in 48 years later! Dumb, dumb, dumb!

Anyway, let me know what you think if you’ve seen these episodes. Despite my complaints, I do enjoy this show and look forward to more episodes and seasons.
