OMG you guys. I’ve been completely absent from my blog for the last month, to the point where I even neglected to do my monthly goals and month in review posts. I’ve never missed those! HOWEVER, my absence has been for good reasons!
In the last month, I met my bariatric surgeon, got cleared for surgery, and actually scheduled my surgery! AHHH! Bet you didn’t see that one coming! Ever since then, it’s been a hectic, crazy, whirlwind of appointment after appointment, stress, nervousness, anxiety, and excitement. I finally had my very last pre-op appointment yesterday which was to get medical clearance from my primary doctor, and now I just wait. August 9th is the big day. It’s been over a year and a half since I started this journey, and to know it’s finally happening and that I have a date is so surreal. In a way, I’m glad it took this long because I think I’m ready now. My mind has adjusted to what my new life will look like, and I’m excited for the future. I look forward to being healthier, starting to run again, and just feeling better overall.
It’s still so hard for me to believe that this is ACTUALLY happening, because there were times where I wanted to give up, but the program I switched to this year has been amazing, and I’ve lost nearly 20 pounds already. Isn’t it funny how you can succeed when you have people who believe in you? Many months ago… HECK, maybe even over a year ago, I changed the lock screen on my phone to the above picture, and it’s been there ever since. It was fueled by anger from the horrible dietitian I had in my first program… the one who didn’t believe in me, the one who put me down, the one who made me quit because yes, I gained weight during the COVID lockdown like the rest of the world. Despite what she told me, I knew that I would still do this someway somehow, and that even though she would NEVER KNOW, I was still going to prove her wrong… and I did. I am. Never EVER tell someone whose top personality trait is “stubborness” that they can’t do something, because then they are 110% going to do it, with the extra 10% being the “prove you wrong” part.
Anyway, I’ll try to get a full update on here before surgery to explain the last couple of months and what I’ve been doing in my program.
Other happenings… work has been insane! Over the last year, our children’s room has been closed due to an extensive remodel and expansion project. We finally had a grand re-opening this month and WOW. I could not believe my eyes. We went from 3,000 square feet to over 10,000 and the space is just magical and amazing and everything a kid could ever dream of. That said, we’ve been more busy than ever because the kids and families are loving it. As such, I’ve been a bit more stressed than usual, but that’s okay. We all are, so at least we’re going through it as a team, right? lol
In other work news, we FINALLY went back to our normal hours. We’d been on a strange COVID schedule since May of 2020. Now I’m back to working my one late night a week and rotating weekends. It feels a little strange, but also kind of nice to be back to “normal.”
In “life” news, we went out to dinner a couple of weeks ago with my two besties and our husbands. It was a lot of fun, even though one of them got HIT by an idiot driver on their way to dinner! We decided we want to try and do a game night every month or so at one of our houses, so we lined that up already for September. Let me tell you, we used to LIVE for game nights in high school and college, so I’m excited to bring it back. The guys don’t usually socialize with us, so it’ll be fun and also ridiculous because game nights can get a little competitive and obnoxious. Bringing them into the mix should be interesting!
My book club also reunited last week after an unintentional hiatus. We went to a dessert only restaurant and it was amazing. I am so glad I got to try it before I have my surgery! Ha! Anyway, my work book club (Forever YA) saw the pictures we posted last week, and they decided they wanted to try it too, so now we’re going there tonight! I mean, would I ever say no to dessert + friends? Nope!
The boys are doing well. Caleb is playing softball this summer with his cousins and Holden is starting 3 year old preschool in September (he’ll turn 3 that month). They drive me nuts and have been fighting quite a bit, but I suppose that’s the way boys are.
…aaaand that’s where I’ve been over the last month. Things have been super hectic for me, between surgery prep and madness at work, and the coming weeks will continue to be hectic since surgery is now less than two weeks away! I’ll try and update as much as I can… wish me luck!
