Hey everybody, happy Monday. Ugh. Hope you all had a good weekend. Ours was decent. I’m super happy that the weather was somewhat cool and felt like fall. We’ve still been having a lot of hot days which I do NOT like one bit. The fall temps need to stay.
Anyway, here are five things from the past weekend.
LASIK surgery, coming up!
I was off on Friday for working the previous Saturday, and the big event of the day was my LASIK consultation! Funny story. Before I met Jerry, I’d been saving up money to get LASIK eye surgery done. I had gone to two different places for consultations and was ready to start the process, but then I met Jerry, we got engaged, and I used the money for our wedding. Oops? Anyway, I’ve never been able to successfully wear contacts, so I’ve been in glasses since I was a kid which is why I’ve always been interested in LASIK. I never really looked into it again after we got married because then we immediately bought our house then started having kids. I guess now that our kids aren’t babies anymore, I’ve been able to stop and take a breath again and look at my own health this year. SO, the consultation went really well and… I scheduled it! I’m having it done in November, and I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that in just a few weeks, I won’t need glasses anymore. I’m really excited!
A big bakery win
After Caleb’s piano lesson on Saturday, he wanted to go to the bakery where they have a prize wheel on Saturdays. For the first time ever, he landed the big prize: four free cupcakes of our choice. OF COURSE! Win the big prize after I can’t eat any sweets! LOL. He always just won small prizes before, when I could still eat sugar! Anyway, we’d already chosen treats for him and Holden, so these were just extras. He doesn’t really eat cupcakes, and neither does Jerry, so they went into the freezer for if/when I can have a little something sweet again. Pure torture, I tell you!
Scale is moving
I finally broke my SECOND two week weight loss stall over the weekend, thank GOD. Yes, they’re very normal, especially in the early days, but they are very discouraging and frustrating, to the point that I cried once last week. Anyway, it was a good weekend because I got to see the scale start moving down again. I’ll report my total loss for the month next week with my monthly goals!
A return to running
Along with my weight loss, another big goal I have for myself to accompany that is to get back to running. I used to love it so much, and now that I am done with having babies, and am slowly getting weight off (especially off of my knees which is needed for running), it’s finally the right time for me. I’ve been walking a lot this month because I have to exercise in general to lose weight (duh), but I’m also doing it to work my way back up to running. Fall is my favorite time to walk because I love the cool temps, and I ended up going for three walks this weekend. Two of them were yesterday (one with the kids and one without). Anyway, my aunt and I signed up for a running challenge / fundraiser in October. The goal is to run 31 miles (they suggest one mile a day, though you can complete the 31 however you’d like, and you can walk if needed) and raise money for a pediatric cancer group. I’ve already raised some money, received my shirt in the mail, and can’t wait to start the challenge! I’m going to do one mile a day as often as possible (I’ll do walking / jogging intervals because this is how I learned to run the first time), but for days that I can’t walk / jog for whatever reason, I’ll double up on another day to recoup. I’m hoping that by the end of October, I will be able to run a full mile again. Just like the last time I learned to run, I’m just going to slowly build myself up to running longer and longer by doing walking / jogging intervals and building up stamina, until eventually, I can run for miles again! I’ll probably set goals for certain miles every month.
Migraine updates
I had a small migraine on Saturday. This is nothing new…. BUT, it was the first migraine I’ve had since taking my Emgality loading dose on September 4th. That means I went three weeks to the day without a single migraine. I think that’s really, really good, and is hopefully a sign that the Emgality is working well. I go back to the neurologist this week, so I’ll see what she thinks. I’m hoping she’ll take me off the Topamax, and that I’ll do well with the Emgality only. Fingers crossed!
That’s about it for the weekend! I do need to mention one hilarious story though. Walmart sells Arby’s frozen curly fries, and Caleb was super excited about this (“Walmart must know Arby’s!” he kept saying). When we took them out of the air fryer, he wanted to eat them immediately, so he went and got a fan out of his room and held it up over his fries to try and cool them off. I was dying. I was also dying when Holden was putting his foot into his mouth the other day. WHY?! He’s THREE, not a baby!
Sigh. They’re always good for a laugh.
