What’s Up Wednesday (6): September 2021

So I know that “What’s up Wednesday” is traditionally a list of prompts that we fill out and whatever, but I wasn’t feeling those particular prompts today. Instead, I am just literally going to tell you what’s up lately. Life has been so busy around here, so I thought I’d just give you a quick rundown of what we’ve been up to!

School

Caleb’s in his second week of school and every day says that it was “great.” Other than that, his answers to my questions are “I don’t remember.” He had one huge meltdown this week where he didn’t want to go to school, but other than that, he’s usually okay about it. On the other hand, Holden’s preschool teacher has texted me a couple of times. First, she had concerns about his lack of language skills (he does get speech therpary), and then with some of his behaviors (didn’t want to share, and wouldn’t go on a riding toy… he just wanted to push it). Sigh. It’s a three year old class, and he just turned three this month, so I think he’s one of the younger ones in the class, and yes, his behavior isn’t great because he’s frustrated from not being able to speak much yet. We’ll see how the rest of the year progresses. He only goes two mornings a week.

Appointments

My calendar for the month is overwhelming with way too many appointments. Sheesh! A follow-up with my surgeon, a phone call with a nutritionist, Holden’s check-up, a follow up at my neurologist’s, another lasering session. Too much happening. On the plus side, my new neurologist started me on Emgality, and I took my first dose at the beginning of the month. It’s probably too soon to tell, but I haven’t had any migraines yet, so I hope that’s a good sign. I really want to come off my Topamax and move to this exclusively, because Topamax side effects are absolutely awful.

“Fun” stuff

The month isn’t filled with JUST appointments… there are some fun things on the horizon too. My Forever YA book club is meeting up at the end of the month. My aunt and I have our first theater show next week (Cats) in over a year (we subscribe to our local theater for the broadway shows, but obviously COVID stalled all the shows), and Caleb and I have been going for walks! I finally feel good enough to exercise, and I love the fall weather, so it’s been good for us. There’s always a lot of “un-fun” stuff to do like chores, laundry, and home renovations, but it’s good to have some fun things to look forward to.

Game nights

My two best friends and I have started up monthly-ish game nights with our husbands. We had our first one this month, and it was a lot of fun. We basically spent the whole time laughing our asses off. We played What Do You Meme, Cards Against Humanity, Taboo (midnight edition), and Utter Nonsense. My stomach was actually sore from laughing so hard. We scheduled our game nights out through the rest of the year, and I know this will be a highlight of the month every time!

Life after surgery

I didn’t do much of anything in August because of my surgery and recovery, but I’m finally starting to feel like I’m back to living again. My pain is minimal, and I only usually feel any pain if I’ve done something strenuous, like laughing too hard at game night (true story, I had pain after that… worth it LOL). My Pink Zebra business was basically set aside for the month, and I’m back to working that again and having fun. I’m reading again (this has been a horrible reading year for me), exercising a bit, and actually making plans and leaving my house (as you can see above!). OH, and I’m also BLOGGING again, as you’ve probably noticed. I still think our fall will be WAY toned down from our typical farm / fall activity every single weekend that I usually drag my family through, but I am at least looking forward to cooler temperatures, scary movies, and Halloween.

So that’s what’s up with us lately. Tell me what’s up with you.
