Hallmark Christmas Movie Reviews (1)

I, like much of the rest of the world, enjoy a good Hallmark Christmas movie (or several) every year. However, this year I have watched way more than usual. I usually DVR most of them every holiday season, then only get around to watching a few. This year, however, I am already EIGHT movies deep, and it’s not even December yet.

Oops?

I don’t think I’ve ever watched eight in an entire season before, and here I am, having watched eight in November alone. I 100% believe this has a lot to do with 2020 being the suckiest year of all time, and me needing all the comfort I can get. Sometimes comfort comes in the form of a cheesy Hallmark movie and a cup of hot chocolate lovingly made by your husband (yes, my husband makes a MEAN hot chocolate, just for me). All that said, I figured I would start to review them for you here so you know which ones you might want to skip and which ones are a must see!

Cranberry Christmas

Very cute! This one is about a couple who is separated but working on reconciling. They’re cranberry farmers and entrepreneurs. The wife has become well known for her company, and is being featured on TV. Being on TV has forced them to fake happiness, which may eventually lead to the real thing again. After watching this, I decided that I too want to be a cranberry farmer. This was much better than your average Hallmark movie. I would highly recommend it. 4/5 stars

Never Kiss a Man in a Christmas Sweater

This one is about a single mom and a grouchy guy who accidentally meet when she smacks him with a Christmas tree and injures him. His injury forces him to stay in town over the holidays instead of going on the big trip he had planned, so he’s big mad. She lets him stay in her guest house turned art studio (probably needed a building permit for that one), and he’s very resentful of her, even though she tries to make it up to him repetedly. Eventually, she breaks through his icy exterior. All in all, this was your average Hallmark movie. It was fine, it was cute. 3/5 stars

Chateau Christmas

This one was just okay, but really not my fave. The two main characters were old college sweethearts who used to play music together. The girl leaves to become a renowned pianist and the guy is sad about it. She returns home for Christmas, saves the local Christmas show by headlining last minute, and reunites with her ex. The characters were kind of stuffy and unlikable, and the movie was pretty boring to me. 2/5 stars

On the 12th Date of Christmas

Two coworkers who create scavenger hunts for a living are vying for the same promotion. Naturally, they don’t like each other, but then they are teamed up to create a Christmas themed scavenger hunt for a prominent local business. In my observation, the man looks like Luke Bryan but is rude. All in all, this was cute with an interesting concept (I love games). I much prefer the small town movies though, and this one takes place in Chicago. 2.5/5 stars

Christmas in Vienna

This one was honestly kind of boring. Two Americans meet in Vienna during the holidays: one is a diplomat and single father, and one is a concert violinist (both kinda boring professions, truthfully). No real chemistry, kind of a dud, and just not great! I’m not really into all these musician themed movies this year for some reason. 2/5 stars

The Angel Tree

An anonymous stranger grants wishes that are placed on an angel tree every year. A woman / single mom returns home to this small town for the first time in many years to try and uncover who “Angel” is for a news story she’s writing. She reconnects with her childhood best friend while she’s home, and romance ensues, all while she tries to unravel the great mystery. This one was very cute and sweet. I have nothing snarky to say! I’d recommend this one. 3.5/5 stars

Heart of the Holidays

A high powered career woman travels from New York City to her small hometown for the first time in many years. While there, she encounters the high school sweetheart that she up and abandoned with no warning eight years earlier. He is still angry, as there was never any closure or goodbye, but they reconnect while putting together a charity Christmas event. This one was just so sweet and made me so happy. I loved the two main cast members as well. 4/5 stars

Five Star Christmas

I loved this one! A family pretend to be guests at their father’s new Bed and Breakfast to impress a visiting travel writer, in hopes of gaining a good review. I thought this had a lot more depth than your typical Hallmark movie. While it did have the expected romance, it also had a lot of family and comedic elements too! It kind of reminded me of Meet the Parents type of humor for some reason. Anyway, it was so cute and heartwarming. I definitely recommend it for the whole family, and not just romance / chick flick lovers. 4/5 stars

And that’s all for now! More to come.
