📚 What It's About
Ashleigh’s boyfriend is about to go off to college, and she’s still in high school. At a drunken summer party, her friends convince her to text him a nude photo to remember her by. After a bitter break up, however, Kaleb seeks revenge by sending the photo to some friends who continue to spread it around. Soon, the picture has gone viral and the scandal is making headlines. Everyone involved finds themselves in bigger trouble than they ever could have imagined.
📝 My Review
I really enjoyed this timely YA contemporary novel about a sexting scandal and how it spiraled out of control. It tackled a big and modern issue that is becoming more and more prevalent as technology continues to grow. I loved that this novel showed how the scandal negatively affected so many people including Ashleigh, Kaleb, her parents, and their classmates. It seemed that no one was left untouched and unaffected, and in rare cases, this really can happen. I also liked watching Ashleigh’s growth and evolution as she is forced to cope with this horrendous and humiliating situation. She is forced to do community service, where she friends an unlikely ally and starts to feel human again after being bullied relentlessly at school.
I highly recommend this book to all fans of YA contemporary novels, especially if you enjoy reading about big issues.
I’d also recommend one of my favorites, Exposure, by Therese Fowler, which is about a similar topic.
