Five on Friday (41)

Another Friday, another peek into the chaos, calm, and everything in between. Here's what’s been on my mind this week…

ONE.

I haven’t talked about Easter yet. It was good but uneventful. We had breakfast pizza at my parent’s house and Caleb and his cousins did an Easter egg hunt in the backyard. It was freezing but they didn’t care. Caleb would shove the eggs in our faces and go “open et.” A family friend (Michael) was sweet enough to embroider and make the kids Easter baskets with their names on them, and he also embroidered a Ruffles towel for Caleb. He has been highly amused by it. He carries it around laughing and saying “Upples,” which is what he calls her.

TWO.

We had a wild windstorm on Wednesday, though not quite as bad as last year’s. We were with partial power for much of the day at work. Then it went all the way down for about a half hour, so we closed the library. Then it came back up and we re-opened. Wednesday is my late night until 9, so I was on a roller coaster of emotions, man! Will I get the night off? Will I not get the night off? Spoiler alert: I didn’t. My parents took Caleb to Chuck E Cheese though that evening since he had seen a commercial earlier in the week and really wanted to go. That day during lunch, I asked him if he wanted mashed potatoes or mac and cheese. His response? Chuck E Cheese.

THREE.

Six days into our no spend month and going strong. HA! We’re spending more on eating out than I’d like to because we already had several plans in place with people, but if we gradually decrease our spending, I think it’ll work better than going cold turkey. Baby steps, y’all! For now, we’ve cut out unnecessary purchases and that alone will be a big help.

FOUR.

Last week, my library hosted author Reyna Grande. Each year, our city does something called Rochester Reads. They pick a title and encourage everyone to read it, then they bring that author to town and they go all around the area for several events. Reyna flew all the way from California! Her book is a memoir called The Distance Between Us, and it’s all about her childhood in Mexico and how her parents left the kids to move to America. Eventually, Reyna came to America as well. Her story is so, so powerful. I really enjoyed reading about the Mexican experience since Jerry’s Mexican and his father was an immigrant. She was an amazing presenter, and I was so excited to meet her and have her sign my book. If you ever get the chance to hear an author, GO GO GO!

FIVE.

This week is crazy busy for me. I’ve had plans almost every day after work. Monday, I saw Unsane with my dad. Tuesday, I hit the gym after work. Wednesday, I went to the gym in the morning then had the crazy windstorm shenanigans at work. Thursday was dinner with a couple of girlfriends (Angela and Christine). We went to a place called Mamma G’s for Chicken French and Caleb was shockingly well behaved. Tonight, I’m seeing A Quiet Place with my best friends. Tomorrow, I have a bridesmaid brunch then my bestie’s gender reveal dinner (I’m voting girl). Sunday, I work , then go BACK to work for an after hours dinner for the staff and our families for National Library Week. Lord, help me. It’s all good stuff, but I can’t catch my breath lately.

That’s five for now — see you in the next chapter.
