Five on Friday (50)

Last weekend was SUPER crazy for us! I had a three-day weekend because I took off Friday for a little out of town adventure with the family, and stayed busy all Friday afternoon and morning until we left. This included a hair cut for Dakota FINALLY! Here’s what else we’ve been up to.

ONE.

Friday, we had our twice-annual water park trip with the family! We go to a hotel about 40 minutes away that has a kiddie water park. We go on the weekends they host a doll show that my mom attends. My parents, brother’s family, and our family go and spend the night. We take the kids into the water park and then have dinner at the hotel restaurant. We all stay the night, have breakfast, then head back to the park for a bit. Jerry and I also brought a cookie cake for my brother and SIL’s birthdays (it’s our tradition to bring a cookie cake every time now). Caleb did the same thing he did the last couple of times: go down a little yellow slide about 100 times. Jerry and I took Holden in a bit but he wasn’t overly fond of the cold water. He didn’t mind the hot tub though. As always, it was a great time! Thank you to my mom for organizing the trip, swimming with the kids, and getting us all our own hotel rooms!

TWO.

Saturday was another day of craziness. We got home from the hotel in the afternoon, then hung around the house a bit. I took a nap (hallelujah!), then we got ready to see SAL VULCANO AHHH! I love him. He’s a comedian from the show Impractical Jokers and I also crush on him big time. My mom came over around 6:00 to watch the kids, and then we hit the road. The show was about an hour away at a huge casino in Waterloo. It was a day of a lot of driving, but so worth it! The theater was fairly small and nice, and the opening act (Chris Distefano – never heard of him) was very funny. Sal was amazing and performed for about an hour. When he came out, I turned to Jerry and whisper shouted “THERE HE IS!!!” We really liked it. I’m not big into concerts these days (too loud, too many people), but I’ve always loved comedy shows. We got home around 10:40 and my mom stayed the night which was a huge help. Thank you again, Mom!

THREE.

The next day was Mother’s Day… duh. It was a nice day. We went to a bakery in the morning to pick up a treat for my mom. I laid down in the afternoon. Jerry gave me an adorable card with a dog on it and made me both lunch AND dinner. Lunch was pulled pork mac and cheese and dinner was carbonara. YUM! I picked it out, and though he’d never made it before, it was great because he’s an awesome cook. My mom came over for dinner and really enjoyed it too. YUM. Jerry said it was a pasta day for me which was nice. I could LIVE OFF of pasta, but we don’t eat it often because Jerry isn’t a big fan. It was a good lowkey day. Jerry also got me a mini cookie cake (yes, they are our favorites) and I got the cutest card from Caleb that he made in school that he signed himself and UGH. I can’t stand it.

Mini cookie cake from Jerry. Caleb took half of it. Haha.

Also, I’ve said it before and I will say it again: my mom is the best in the world. She takes care of our boys while we work and helps to raise them, and she gives up anything and everything for her family. She is the most devoted Mimi in the world and she supports and loves me endlessly. I am sorry your gift was late so we were not able to celebrate properly, but know that we appreciate you every single day, even if I don’t always show it or say it (you know I suck at emotional things).

FOUR.

Other random things from the last couple of weeks… does this mean I’m cheating since this is FIVE on Friday? Oh well.

  • We got another custom cookie order from Stay Weird Cookies and OMG… to die for. You want to know the flavors I got? Well… okay! (1) dark chocolate dough with Nutella, marshmallows, and chocolate chips (2) chocolate dough with butterscotch chips, toffee bits, and caramel (3) cookies and cream dough with Oreos, chocolate chips, and white chocolate chips and (4) birthday sex aka vanilla dough, vanilla cake mix, and white chocolate chips. The birthday sex is one she has on her site and not my original creation but it’s soooo good. Jerry also got some, but his aren’t nearly chocolate-y enough for me, so let’s not discuss.
  • I bought a copy of the HamilTOME aka Hamilton by Ron Chernow (my Hamilton musical obsession continues). I think I’d like to read it for the next several months with a goal of finishing by the end of the year (it’s 800 pages).
  • I ended up calling in sick last Tuesday because the kids were both super miserable with colds (and have been for a few weeks now). I also caught it from them… yuck.
  • Best ever: my grandpa in another state came home from the hospital after he was having some medical issues and what a relief! Love that guy!

FIVE.

This one deserves its own point because it’s something so meaningful and special to me. I got the most amazing, sweetest email from a blog reader in Germany that made my entire MONTH! Blogging can sometimes be tiring and thankless, but knowing that there are people reading and that I’ve made some amazing friends makes it all worth it. Super excited to keep chatting with my new friend!

Phew! That was a lot, I know! Things have been busy and crazy around here lately and I feel like I had so much to update you all on! I’m hoping things will maybe slow down a bit (but don’t I always say that?). Probably not. Next week is book club, a field trip for Caleb, and resuming my laser hair removal treatments that were on hold while I was pregnant… so it’s sounding like another busy week. This weekend, I am working all day Saturday from 8:30 – 5:00 and I’ll be in the children’s room… send chocolate.
