- The Secret of a Heart Note by Stacey Lee
What I Watched
Movies:
- Midsommar: Jerry and I watched this and I LOVED it… he did not. I thought it was so jarring, stark, and genuinely scary. Funny story: while watching it, I was saying how it had Hereditary vibes to it, and then after we finished, I found out it was the same director.
- Same Time, Next Christmas: such a cute movie, put out by ABC.
Shows:
The theme of the month was Christmas shows… mostly food ones! I loved them all, except for Santa’s Baking Blizzard, which was kind of meh.
- Holiday Baking Championship
- Holiday Wars
- Holiday Gingerbread Showdown
- Santa’s Baking Blizzard
- The Great Christmas Light Fight
- Kate Plus Date (now that I’m back to non-Christmas entertainment, my trashy reality TV love continues)
Exercise
- ZERO. Back at it for January!
What We Did
- My dad, Caleb, and I went on a lighthouse Christmas tour.
- Caleb played a shepherd in his preschool Christmas pageant. They also sang songs and had a party and gift exchange.
- Jerry and I went on our annual outing to the Yuletide in the Country tour.
- We also took the kids to an indoor Christmas light show at the mall where Caleb danced in the lights to “All I Want for Christmas”, wrote a letter to Santa, played in a bounce house, and did some crafts.
- We took the kids to a town event called Christmas Under the Stars. Caleb met Rudolph, sang Christmas karaoke, made a cookie plate and magical reindeer food, and had s’mores and hot chocolate. Holden just chilled. LOL.
- My work book club had a wonderful little holiday meeting with a cookie exchange. My personal book club also had a nice meeting with awesome gifts! I got a mug, bookmark, and Barnes and Noble gift card from my Secret Santa, Toni. Also, cookies from Christine and amazing homemade body butters, moonshine, bookmarks, and vanilla extract from Angela!
- We celebrated Christmas Eve at my parent’s house with them and my brother’s family.
- Christmas morning was spent at home. Caleb LOVED Christmas this year. His main present was an Echo Dot and he’s obsessed with it.
- The rest of Christmas was breakfast at my parent’s house and dinner at my Aunt Julie’s with my dad’s side of the family.
- Had a girl’s get-together with my mom, my bestie, and her mom. We exchanged gifts for the boys (she has one too) and ate Christmas cookies. So fun, though our other bestie wasn’t feeling good and couldn’t make it. 🙁
- New Year’s Eve was our annual fancy dinner at my parent’s house. YUM. After we headed home, I watched a little of the New Year’s Rockin’ Eve thing with Caleb while Jerry gamed. Caleb hoped to see Lizzo, which was a no go, but we DID love seeing Blanco Brown!
Random Tidbits
- Here’s some Caleb quotes for you from December: “it was just a shart,” “you coulda had a bad bitch,” “Mommy, I’m going to miss you when I’m a grown up,” “I really want to get married when I’m a grown up. So when I’m 18, I will be a grown up,” “I don’t feel ugly at all. I’m just cute.” None of these were prompted. Where in the world he got the ugly thing from, I have no idea!
- The kids did their chocolate advent calendars, and it was Holden’s first one!
- We had to take our Christmas tree down in the living room after one day because Holden was a savage. They ended up both just having mini trees in their rooms.
- Holden has started to say “mama” once in awhile. He’s already been saying “dada” for awhile.
- A patron pulled me aside at work to tell me that I had helped her locate test materials a few weeks prior. She remembered me and wanted to thank me and tell me she got a 96 on her test. Cue all the feels.
- I had to work Christmas Eve for a couple of hours for the first time in forever which was… not thrilling.
- The boys have been fighting nonstop lately. It’s quite a challenge, friends.
Coming Up
- Jerry, Caleb, and I all have birthdays in January so I took a few days off for all of those. I’m turning 31, Caleb will be 5, and Jerry will be 33.
- For Jerry’s birthday, I’m taking him to a concert he wanted to go to: Rover’s Holiday Hangover.
- I’m seeing Anastasia (the musical) with my aunt and friend.
- My friend Angela is hosting a crochet night so she can teach me and a few others how to do it. Can’t wait to learn.
- I’m having a craft night at the end of the month with my mom, SIL, and friend Margaret. I am NOT crafty at all, but I’m hoping to learn a few things. I’m going to be working on some Christmas crafts for next year.
