ONE.
Today is my birthday! I’m 31. Next week, Caleb will turn 5 and Jerry will turn 33, but today… it’s all about me. Haha! I’m off work today AND Monday, so it’s a nice four-day weekend for me too. We’re keeping it all low key this year. Tonight, we’re getting garbage plates for dinner (a Rochester delicacy), and Jerry is picking out some sweet treats for me. I’m hoping to watch a movie, read, and just relax.
TWO.
If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve likely already seen my crafts, but if you haven’t… I’m crafting now! I’ve spent my entire life bemoaning the fact that I’m not crafty at all, but a few weeks ago, I tried it out and impressed myself. Ha! I LOVE vintage things and antiques, so I’m making vintage Christmas assemblages. I’ve been having an absolute blast scouring all the thrift stores every week for Christmas figurines, tea cups, mugs, and milk glass to make my arrangements in. I even talked to my friend Margaret, a big time crafter, and we might rent a booth together at a fall craft show.
THREE.
Along with the crafting, my SIL and I have been having a blast lately scouring all of our Dollar Trees and Target Bullseye sections. We’ve joined all these Dollar Tree DIY and Target groups, and went crazy looking for the $5 Target tiered trays. We finally found some! Wahoo! We’re also on the hunt for some Dollar Tree items we want for our new tiered trays. You guys… tiered trays are crazy fun. Home decor is one of my favorite things and I’ve been having so much decorating it and finding little pieces to use with it.
FOUR.
Last week, during my Forever YA book club meeting, one of the girls asked Caleb how he was. His response? “I’ve had a rough day. My butt hurts.” TO A ROOM FULL OF WOMEN, YOU GUYS! He was having some constipation troubles, and when you’re 4-going-on-5, it’s best to announce it to all your mom’s friends, apparently. I can’t stop laughing. I can’t.
FIVE.
OH! This is a kind of cool thing I wanted to mention and brag on a bit. Libraries are big on statistics for budgeting purposes and one HUGE thing we track is circulation (how often items get checked out). As you might imagine, over the last several years, print circulation (hard copies of books, movies, etc.) has been on the decline pretty much everywhere, and our digital collection circulation (OverDrive, Libby, etc.) has been on a steady incline. This is par for the course in this modern age, and we just use that information to gauge how much of the budget will be allocated to each part of the collection every year. Well, for the first time in several years, the circulation of ONE print collection at our library (it’s broken down by age group, genre, etc.) actually INCREASED and went up more than 2% in 2019… and it was MY fiction collection! I order all of our adult fiction and yikes! I was really shocked and excited to hear this at a staff meeting, and I felt really proud! Now I’m going to work harder than ever to try and keep this trend going forward.
Speaking of libraries, if you’re looking for a laugh, or just want to know more about being a librarian (I get asked a lot!), check out my new post: “Librarian Stereotypes.” Some coworkers and I came up with a list of the biggest librarian stereotypes we could think of, and I debunked them for you. Are librarians really cat ladies? Do we all wear buns?! Click over to find out! LOL.
Hope you guys enjoy your weekend. I’m looking forward a fun, relaxing, and productive four-day birthday weekend!
