Just about two years ago, I created a list of updates I wanted to make in, outside of, and around the house. Our house is fine, but it’s definitely not my dream home, so the list was… long, let’s say. The ultimate goal would be to move at some point, but I have no idea when we will be able to make that happen. It will be at least several years. And while it will never be our dream house or forever home, there are still small things we can do in the meantime to improve it. All that said, I’ve reassessed my list of house goals. Basically, I want(ed) to overhaul and remodel practically everything. Since we don’t plan on being here forever though, I think I’m going to table many of those ideas and leave them for the next / future homeowners. Here are the goals that I think would still be reasonable for us to do (pulled from the original list), minus some of the big, major goals I had originally envisioned.
Downstairs Remodel
The ground floor of our house is currently a catch all / storage area since we don’t have a basement. The carpeting is also hideous and in pretty bad shape. We don’t use the area for much, except that our laundry room is down there, as is our treadmill. One thing we’ve talked about is turning it into a playroom. I’d also like to move a lot of my Pink Zebra business stuff down there. We want to rip up the carpeting and get it tiled or put in vinyl flooring. In order to do that, we’d first have to pack up everything that’s down there, then tear out the carpeting. I’ve been working down there a bit with my mom who is helping me get my stuff organized that I’ve been storing down there. It’s been a long process and we have a lot of work still to do. However, we will get there eventually! Once that stuff is all sorted and packed up, we can proceed to the flooring. It’s a large space and I’d like to see it get more use / be more organized and less chaotic.
Updated Ceilings
Welp, our ceilings are still hideous. The kitchen has an ugly tile ceiling. The rest of the house has popcorn ceilings. I would really love to have smooth, normal ceilings. This seems like a fairly easy way to update our home. The main question is: how much will it cost to remove the stucco ceiling in my home? I’d say it’s probably quite a bit cheaper than the full kitchen remodel I originally wanted, so hopefully we can make this one happen.
Wall Repairs and Painting
We painted quite a bit of the walls shortly after we moved in, but over time, some of the walls have gotten damaged. This has mostly been caused by baby gates, scratches when moving furniture, and our PRECIOUS children writing and drawing on the walls. We definitely need to repair the dings and then paint over everything.
Painted Stairs
Similar story as the walls. The front of our stairs are white (supposedly), but they are so dinged up, stained, scratched, scuffed, etc. from years of being walked on. I really want to repaint them. I feel like it might be complicated or difficult because it seems like an awkward place to paint, but hopefully it’ll be simpler than I’m imagining.
So that’s all I’ve got on the list for now! It’s much more reasonable and feasible than my original list. Wish us luck!
