Loving Lately (7)

Hello, hello! I thought it seemed about time for another installment of Loving Lately! I’ll hop right to it. Here are the things I’ve been loving and enjoying lately.

❤️ New favorite bakery

We recently discovered a new (to us) bakery called Shelly’s Sweet Shoppe. As a connoisseur of all things chocolatey and sweet, I am ALWAYS excited to try out a bakery. I just randomly saw them on Facebook one day a couple of months ago and decided to try them. It was a HIT and is our new favorite. They make all kinds of things, but our favorite things are the cookie bars. Why do cookies taste better in bar form?! Maybe because they’re so thick? Anyway, we usually end up going once a week or so. She posts what they have daily on FB, and if there’s something we like (there usually is), we make a little trip. This place is a lot cheaper than most, she offers SO many flavors, and everything just tastes super homemade. Because of my surgery and inability to tolerate much sugar at once, I’m usually able to make a bar last me several days. SWEET! (And this is not sponsored in any way, shape, or form. We just LOVE a good bakery.)

❤️ Nut butter

So in my last Loving Lately post, I shared about my new favorite granola butter! I have also added some nut butters to the mix. Why do I love all of these butters? Welp, I HATE peanut butter, and nut butters tend to be high in protein (which I need due to surgery), so these are good alternatives for me. I also just like them to satisfy my sweet cravings because I’ll just take a spoonful out and eat it. Yummm. Anyway, I purchased several flavors of almond butter and cashew butter from American Dream Nut Butter (again, not sponsored) and they’ve all been sooo good. There are a lot of interesting and fun flavors!

❤️ Car fixed

So remember how I got a completely flat tire last week? Yeah, that wasn’t fun. This happened on a Friday, and I finally got my Jeep back on Tuesday. It was such a relief. My parents had to drive me around for two days to work and a doctor’s appointment, so I am delighted to have my car and independence back, lol. There are several other things I’d like to do to my car, such as repairing the AC, but they will have to wait for now. As long as it’s drive-able, I am happy!

❤️ Trying new restaurants

Jerry and I have been venturing out and trying new restaurants. We usually stick to our old favorites, but we’ve been more adventurous as of late. We’ve tried:

  • Brittany’s Fresh Squeezed Lemonade: a brand new place that offers all different flavors of lemonade, including sugar free. I need sugar free because of my surgery, so this was a hit for us!
  • Big Greek Grill: this restaurant is in Waterloo (about an hour away) where we went to the comedy show the other week. We stopped here for dinner on our way to the show. We also hit up Mrs. Fields… yum. That was new to us too, and their mini cookie cake was amazing.
  • Connie’s Diner: this place also happens to be in Waterloo, and we literally drove one hour with the kids to get there a couple of weeks back because… loaded milkshakes! They’re fairly well known for these monster milkshakes and I’d been dying to try. They had a special cookie dough one for the month and I NEEDED it! We ate dinner, then all shared the shake. Worth it!
  • House of Whacks: this is waffle / soul food place. We went a year or two ago when they first opened because we wanted to try their bubble waffle sundaes, and they did NOT disappoint. Recently, we discovered their amazing lunch platters too, and have gone twice for them. YUM.

❤️ Wearing sunglasses

So this probably sounds weird, but I love that I can wear sunglasses now! I had LASIK last year, and now my eyes are FREE. Lol.

❤️ "Wilder Days"

I am obsessed with this new song by Morgan Wade. I’d never even heard of her, but I randomly heard this song on the radio a few weeks ago and immediately fell in love with it. Usually it takes me hearing something a few times, but it pulled me right in. She has an amazing, unique voice and now I am obsessed with her. Can’t get enough of this song, for real!

❤️ Caleb's piano playing

I don’t think I mentioned this on the blog yet, but Caleb played in his first piano recital a few weeks back! He even got a trophy at the end for hitting one year of lessons. He did great and even did this hilarious bow with his arm extended very far in the back. Hahaha.

That’s what I’ve been loving lately — now it’s your turn. What little things are making you smile right now?
