Five on Friday (77)

Happy Friday, everyone! Here's what been going on with us.

ONE.

We finally got hit with COVID in our house. We had a good, long run without it, but knew it was bound to happen at some point. Jerry got sick first. He was getting chills and feeling nauseous, but attributed it to something else. Then a few days later, I got sick. I had cold symptoms, plus a migraine and body aches. I decided to test on Saturday on a whim, and SURPRISE! COVID. Jerry tested positive as well, and so did Caleb. Caleb’s chief complaint was sore legs, but he snapped back really quickly in just a day or two. We never tested Holden because he felt completely fine. I returned to work on Thursday, and Jerry will be returning on Monday. We’re all good now, but let me tell you… the WORST symptoms I had were loss of taste and smell, which didn’t happen until a couple of days in. I never realized how bad those things could be until it happened to me. I couldn’t smell anything at all, including my beloved wax (this was the biggest reason I was upset), and nothing had any taste. I finally started to get them back last night and I was honestly so relieved.

Speaking of migraines, I’m on yet another new medication, and I like it so far. This is almost always the case… a medication starts out working really well, then eventually stops.

TWO.

August 9th was my one year “surgiversary!” I am still in shock that it’s been a year now since I had my Gastric Bypass. I have exceeded my surgeon’s goal weight, and don’t plan on stopping yet. I’d like to lose about 10 – 20 more pounds, but I’m so happy that I at least “beat” the doctor’s goal for me. It’s been quite a year with highs and lows… but mostly highs. I absolutely have zero regrets and think it was probably one of the best things I could have ever done for myself.

THREE.

During this week of COVID, Jerry finally got a phone call about a job he interviewed for a couple of months ago. He got the job!!! He’ll be working at the same place, but will be in a different department. His hours are changing slightly, and he’s getting a pay increase too, so we’re all happy over here! We’re going out to dinner tonight to celebrate.

FOUR.

Caleb recently did his first “solo” run, and had a TON of fun. It was a Color Run and it was short enough and contained enough that he did it on his own. It was almost all kids, anyway. He loved it, though he did dodge all the color stations to avoid getting dirty. He’s quite a character! Honestly, he’s so fast, it blows my mind! Next up will be the Turkey Trot again in November, in which Jerry and I run / walk too. I’m looking forward to it.

FIVE.

Jerry and I have watched a couple of good things lately. We saw The Black Phone, which was an AMAZING horror movie. It was so well done and unique. We also breezed through Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey, a Netflix documentary about Warren Jeffs and the FLDS. It was fantastic, horrifying, amazing, fascinating… all of the things. I was pretty interested in the FLDS quite a few years ago when I read the memoir Stolen Innocence, and it still never ceases to fascinate and boggle the mind. Anyway, I’m a huge documentary junkie, so check it out if you are too.

That’s five for now — see you in the next chapter.
