I was 12 weeks yesterday. Holy cow! This pregnancy is flying by! Anyone else notice that their second pregnancy went by much faster than their first?!
Symptoms: Not the best week ever. I had an atrocious migraine on Wednesday morning that had me in actual tears. Migraine sufferers know that Tylenol doesn’t do a damn thing, and that’s pretty much all that’s pregnancy approved for pain relief. Luckily, I had an appointment that afternoon and my doctor prescribed me Fiorcet. I got it on my way to work, took it, and felt 100% better within 30 minutes. What a damn miracle! I am so relieved. I actually might try and switch to this after my pregnancy, too. I really hate the side effects of the stuff I usually take (Imitrex or Maxalt, which I can’t take during pregnancy anyway), and the Fioricet had virtually no side effects. Also, another symptom is that I literally gagged about 10 times and almost threw up the other day because I was getting my shoes on next to the garbage bag that was ready to go out. It was AWFUL! I’m starting to get a little breathless at times too, but nothing major. I just basically have to take deeper breaths.
Diet / Cravings: I had a lot of soup this week! My mom made me chicken, lemon, and rice soup for work. I also treated myself to some french onion soup. Yum! I’ve been drinking a lot of Ginger Ale too. I bought a case to bring to work to help with the nausea. I have a can every day.
Exercise: I went to the gym Tuesday after work, and that was it. Thursday I was planning on going, but we were getting a snowstorm so I went grocery shopping instead after work. Sunday, I was getting ready to go again, and then my parents invited us to breakfast. Not the best week for exercise, so I’m hoping to make up for it this week.
Good Moments:
- I had my 12 week appointment on Wednesday and got to hear the baby’s heartbeat for the first time! Also, I love my doctor. He is so positive, funny, and encouraging. He never gets on me about my weight, and only talks about it when I bring it up and mention concerns that I have. He is happy that I’m working out and only said to not overdo it.
- Getting that Fiorcet was amazing. It’s saving my life right now.
- Stepping on the scale at the doctor’s office was pretty good too. I mean… I hate how high the number is in general, but I love that I was only up 3 pounds, whereas last time, I was already up about 7 or 8 pounds at this point. HOLLA! Hard work at the gym is paying off.
- Getting back into a groove with exercise is making me feel all sorts of proud. Yes, I regret that it took me getting pregnant to find that motivation again… but I love that I found that motivation again, regardless of what led me there. Even though I’m always so tired, I drag myself there anyway and I ALWAYS feel better after. This week wasn’t great, but in general, I’ve been doing pretty good.
- I busted out a pair of maternity leggings this week. I didn’t really need to, but the belly is expanding, and this helps hold in the bump + the fat. HA! It just rounds it out and holds it in.
Bad Moments: That killer migraine. I told Jerry I felt like dying.
Looking Forward To: This afternoon, we have our first trimester screening at the hospital… AKA 12 week ultrasound! Jerry didn’t go to this one with Caleb because of work, but he’s going this time. I can’t wait for us to get to see our little bean! The first time was at six weeks and it was only a speck.
Comparisons: Here’s my 12 week bumpdate with Caleb. Some similar symptoms like feeling emotional and some breathlessness. I also have gained a lot less so far, so yippee. I’m starting off a lot heavier this time, but still… I’m proud that I have better self control and motivation this go round.
