Get Sh*t Done: May 2018 Goals

Time to check in and reset. In this post, I’m looking back at how I did on my April 2018 goals — and setting some fresh ones for May 2018. Whether I crushed it or crawled through it, it all counts. Let’s keep going… one messy step at a time.

April 2018 Goals Recap

personal goals

❌ Transfer all remaining videos from my phone to my hard drive: FAIL. Didn’t have time. This is a weekend project and I worked three weekends this month. Ugh.
Go to the gym at least nine times: DONE! I went exactly nine times. I went twice a week most weeks, and three times one week. I went on: 4/3, 4/4, 4/11, 4/12, 4/18, 4/21, 4/22, 4/25, 4/28.
See six movies in theater: DONE! I made it to exactly six this month!
  • Flower: I really liked it! It was unique and funny. I saw this with Angela.
  • Unsane: This was decent but not as good as I’d hoped. I took my dad to see it.
  • A Quiet Place: Really good! Interesting to see a movie with almost no dialogue. I saw this with Katie and Taylor.
  • Blockers: Hilarious! It was even a little heartwarming at the end. I saw this alone.
  • Truth or Dare: Entertaining enough but nothing special. I saw this with Jerry, Angela, and Evin.
  • I Feel Pretty: I loved it! My favorite of the month. Hilarious and delivered a great message, especially for women. This was my Girl’s Movie Club pick. I went with my Mom and our cousin Ellen.

financial goals

❌ Complete a successful “no spend” month: FAIL. We did well for the first couple of weeks, and then it turned into a flop. More about this on Friday.
❌ Increase savings by $200: FAIL. We were close ($150), but not quite there.
✅ Don’t use the credit card: DONE! While our gym membership goes on here monthly (I need to switch it to our debit), I didn’t use it for any purchases.
❌ Pay at least $500 on our loan and credit card: FAIL. We paid around $355.

household goals

Sort through tupperware again: DONE! I do this every few months, and still always manage to find a butt-load of mismatched pieces. Felt nice to throw those away and only have full sets.
Drop off boxes to Goodwill: DONE! I dropped off a lot more than my original three boxes, so YAY!
❌ Find ten books to donate or get rid of: FAIL. I found five and donated them which was good, but then I bought more. Oops.
Finally finish putting all the laundry away: FAIL. UGH. We will never be caught up.
✅ Total Completed: 5 of 11. Not a great month, but at least I got SOME of these things done. It was a really hectic month with working three weekends.

May 2018 Goals

Personal Goals

  • Work out 10 times: I’m upping it from nine this month. Since the weather is nicer, I will consider a gym visit OR a walk outside (of at least 30 minutes) to be a work out.
  • See six movies in theater: There are six May releases I want to see. They include: Bad Samaritan, Overboard, Tully, Book Club, Life of the Party, and Breaking in.
  • Read and discard three magazines: More de-cluttering!
  • Cook at least one Sunday dinner: Jerry and I have started rotating cooking duty on Sundays.
  • Make three Diplicious sales: I’d like to make three sales this month for my business. I’m close to getting my next pay out.

Financial Goals

  • Don’t buy any Lemax: My weakness lately has been buying pieces for my Halloween village.
  • Pay $200 on credit card: This balance is pretty low and I’d like to just get it paid off ASAP, before the baby comes.

Household Goals

  • Clean out and re-organize kitchen cabinet under microwave: in my quest to simplify and de-clutter, I am going to start with the kitchen. This particular cupboard is filled with random appliances and appliance pieces.
  • Clean out and re-organize “primitive” kitchen cabinet: this is another cabinet that is stuffed with appliances and random kitchen things.
  • Sort through and clean out our two drawers of kitchen gadgets: I need to sort through my drawers of spatulas, serving spoons, measuring cups, etc.
  • Clean out the fridge and freezer again: I do this every few months. It will include discarding old junk, and washing the shelves.
  • Buy replacement appliances: a couple of my small kitchen appliances and gadgets will need to be replaced after the clean out.
  • Make sure dishwasher is unloaded and/or loaded every evening (with four passes): I’ve started making sure we’re caught up on the dishes every night and it’s been helpful with keeping the house clean. I’ll give myself four free passes if I miss a night by either forgetting or being too tired or sick.
That’s what on the docket for May! As you know, I’m working on simplifying and getting rid of a lot of stuff, and the kitchen is my big goal for May.

One messy step at a time still moves you forward.
