Baby #2 Bumpdate: 24 - 25 Weeks

24+3 weeks

I officially hit 25 weeks yesterday!

Here are some of the highlights since my last update:

  • Had my 24 week appointment (a few days early) on 5/23. Pretty routine, but for a moment, the doctor couldn’t find the heartbeat and asked me if I’d been feeling the baby. A few seconds later, he found it. PHEW! Received our hospital pre-admission paperwork and welcome packet from the hospital, my glucose drink (round 2), and chatted with him a bit about my decision to NOT nurse  (he is fully supportive). We also scheduled our first monthly growth ultrasound for the following week (we are now getting these due to my AFP test), as well as my next prenatal appointment for 28 weeks.
  • I had my growth ultrasound a week later on 5/30. The baby looked great and was growing as expected. He weighed about 1 pound, 9 ounces. He was moving around, had his leg fully extended, and was putting his hands to his mouth. Caleb gasped and said “baby” when the screen came on. I don’t think he actually knew what it was, but we’d been telling him he would be seeing the baby.
  • On Saturday, 6/2, Caleb made his first real acknowledgment of the baby! I pointed to my stomach and asked “who’s in there?” He pointed and said “brother” with a little smirk. I was so happy! He’s never made any indication of understanding at all.
  • This past weekend, I started feeling pretty bad. Up until now, I’ve honestly felt pretty good with just some occasional back pain and heartburn. But yesterday… ugh! My back was sore all day, my joints and arms started to hurt, and I’ve been feeling a little nauseous. Sleep is getting difficult as I can’t find any painless position. I did work out yesterday, so some of this may be due to the exercise. I guess we’ll see. Still feeling the same today. Luckily, I have the day off. We had to take Jerry’s car in for inspection and I’m also doing my glucose test.
  • The baby is moving around like crazy now. Love that!
25 weeks
That’s all I’ve got for now! We’ve got to start getting a move on with getting more of the stuff we need for the baby, but I’m also starting to stress about finances, wondering how we will be able to afford my maternity leave. I’d like to take a whole 12 weeks, but I only have enough sick/vacation time for about 5-6 weeks (yes, I have to use up my banks and then go on no pay. I receive zero maternity leave or disability pay at all). We are still going to try and make it work so I can take a full leave, but we will have to go with the flow. Regardless, we do need to make some purchases soon like the carseat, bottles, pacifiers, etc.

Here are my 24 and 25 week bumpdates with Caleb.
