How was your July? Mine felt simultaneously like a drag, and like it flew by. It was really hot, really long, and work has been crazy / kind of stressful. I was pretty glad to start a fresh new month, to be honest. Anyway, here’s what our July was like.
Books Read
I only finished 2 books in July, but ended the month in the middle of quite a few more. Those will be on August’s book count though (I count it in the month I finish it, not start it). Reviews for these to come next week!
- One Woman’s Journey: Surviving the Streets by Brittany Dodd-Santiago: she’s a cast member on Love After Lockup, so I really enjoyed this one.
- The Wrestler Murders by James Falcon: this was super short, more like a long article. It’s about the murder suicide by wrestler Chris Benoit.
Movies Watched
- Free Willy 2: with Caleb!
- Free Willy 3: with Caleb, again!
Shows Watched
- 90 Day Fiancé
- Spring Baking Championship
- Extraordinary People on TLC
- Unsolved Mysteries reboot on Netflix… loved it!
Happenings and Tidbits
- We celebrated the 4th of July at my brother’s house. The kids had fun playing around and doing sparklers.
- I hit my 10 year work anniversary at the library.
- My mother chopped off MANY inches of my hair. It was a risk, but it came out okay! I just honestly hate the summer and the heat, and my long hair was driving me nuts and sticking all over my neck. Thank goodness for appliance repair, and our functioning icemaker at home. I chug ice water all day, but it HAS to be icy cold with tons of ice.
- My mom, Caleb, and I hit up a FREE estate sale on the day of the hair cut, and I scored so many figurines and antiques for free (aside from the bit of money I donated). It was super thrilling and fun.
- I had my sleep study done for surgery.
- I had my annual with my OB/GYN who was concerned about my slightly elevated blood pressure. I never had any BP problems until my pregnancy with Holden. He switched my BC pills, so we’ll see what that does.
- I had my fifth nutrition visit virtually with my dietitian. It went pretty well!
- I had a mommy / son ice cream date with Caleb, and took him to Abbotts.
- Had the best donut of my whooole life when our favorite donut shop made limited edition cookie dough donuts one weekend. Jerry ran out there really early in the morning to land us some. YUM!
- I sold some of Holden’s outgrown clothes on Facebook, so I guess we are officially done with babies. Sad/happy.
- Holden started saying “hi” and “bye.”
- Funny Caleb stories from the month:
- He thought that his yogurt would glow in the dark because it said “light yogurt.” He even turned off the lights to check.
- I called him “Mister Caleb,” and he responded with “Mister Mommy.”
- He was on another “get rid of Holden” kick, because Holden keeps throwing his drinks and is “a bad baby.” When asked what we should do with him, Caleb said we would “put him back in the box,” or that we could return him at Kohl’s (we do our Amazon returns there).
- Speaking of Caleb, we finally made a decision this month about school this fall (he’s entering kindergarten). We could either do 100% remote learning, or 2 days in school with 3 days remote. We opted for 100% remote learning after a lot of back and forth on the decision.
Coming Up in August
August shouldn’t be too busy. We don’t have much planned, so here are the few things coming up this month.
- My virtual follow up with the sleep study doctor.
- My SIXTH virtual dietitian appointment at the end of the month. Pleeeease, oh please, let this be the last one!
- All that said, I am working hard this month on losing as much weight as possible to be ready and approved for surgery (which, fingers crossed, will happen this fall!)
- My ratty dog is finally getting his hair cut.
- I am signing up as a consultant this month for a home fragrance company, and I am reeeally excited. I’ve said it before and it bears repeating: I’m not a HUGE fan of home sales or MLMS (though I actually do support a few), and my motivation in joining is for a personal discount. I use so much wax, and love getting all new warmer designs, so I just want to earn a commission off of what I’m ALREADY buying. I will never, ever be a pushy salesperson, and I am joining for myself, not really to make any money. That said, just contact me if you’re interested. It’d be nice and exciting to make sales, but that’s not my motivation at all. I love all brands of wax and wax warmers, including the cheaper ones, and have a ton from Walmart.
… and I think that’s it! Another weird COVID month with not much going on aside from work, and preparations for surgery.
