What's Up Wednesday (3): August 2020

Time for another What’s Up Wednesday, to share all the little news and details of what’s going on in our world right now.

What we’re eating this week

Jerry made some prime rib and homemade mashed potatoes over the weekend and it was a delicious meal. Other than that, nothing exciting because I am still in the process of losing weight to get approved for my weight loss surgery.

What I’m reminiscing about

Holden, my BABY, is turning two a week from today! I was just texting Jerry yesterday and almost had myself in tears. I remember the labor and birth so well, that it feels like it was just yesterday. I wish I could go back in time and have a snuggly newborn Holden sleeping on me again. Most of the time I don’t miss the baby days, but gosh, there were some sweet moments that I’d kill to re-live again.

What I’m loving

Cooler temperatures on the way, Halloween / fall decor and vibes already appearing, Holden posing for pictures and saying “chee.”

What we’ve been up to

Work, housework, wrangling the kids. My friend Denise came over last weekend to hang out and work on making wax samples, so that was fun! It’s been way too long since I’ve gotten to really spend time with friends. Jerry also went on a 12 mile “rucking” hike over the weekend with my aunt and family friend, and he was EXHAUSTED.

What I’m dreading

Halloween is my favorite day of the whole year, and I just love the entire season leading up to it with all the spooky vibes. Well, the haunted hayrides and haunted houses in the area have already been canceled for the year, and the “Scream Fest” that we go to every year has too (it’s a family Halloween festival). Sounds like all of the usual activities I live for and wait for all year will be canceled. I totally understand they had to do it, but I am sad nonetheless. We will still make it a fun time with scary movies, donuts, cider, and all the candles and decor, but it will definitely be lacking a bit this year.

What I’m working on

I successfully launched my Pink Zebra wax business this month, and it’s been amazing. I’m not a sales-y person, so I didn’t know how it would go. I really just wanted a discount. However, it’s been going better than I ever expected. I’ve made sales, I’ve gone “live” in my Facebook group, I’m getting out of my comfort zone, and am working hard on my little side biz. I love everything about it, and even though it’s taking a lot of time and work, I love every minute of it! My upline even sent me a sweet welcome gift.

What I’m excited about

The fall season, the spooky season, seasonal fry cakes and donuts, growing my wax business more, long weekends from work in September. Lots of good stuff is coming!

What I’m watching / reading

Lately I’ve watching Teen Mom, Creepshow (we just re-subscribed to Shudder!), and America Says (am I the world’s youngest game show addict?). Right now, I am finishing up a new adult romance read called Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas. It has really good reviews and I’m enjoying it a lot! A little raunchier than I usually like, but I don’t mind it.

What I’m listening to

Congratulations podcast from Chris D’elia. I have over 100 episodes to go, so this will keep me busy for quite awhile! I’m not huge into podcasts, but I’ve started listening to them on occasion now, mostly at work if / when I’m doing busy work that doesn’t require concentration. After this one, I’m planning on listening to a podcast called Voices for Justice (I’m a huge true crime buff). As for music, same as always… country!

What I’m wearing

Sorry to disappoint here, but this category is never exciting on my end because I am not a fashionista nor am I really into clothes or girly stuff. It’s still pretty warm here so I’ve been mostly wearing dresses to work, but I can feel it slowly starting to cool down. You know what that means… legging time! I don’t wear jeans, so I basically live in leggings for most of the year.

What I’m doing this weekend

I’m leaving work early on Friday because my mom rented some sort of icee truck to come to her house for all the grandsons. That’ll be cool! On Saturday, I’m having a “Dip n’ Sniff” get together at my house. I’m just having a few friends over to smell my new wax samples, and I’ll be serving some snacks, mostly dips. Jerry and I love dip, so I started selling it in 2017, mostly just because we buy it a lot, and get money back since I’m an “affiliate.” Ha!

What I’m looking forward to next month

Holden’s birthday, as well as his “drive by” birthday celebration the weekend after. We’re setting up birthday treats on a table outside, and people can drive by to pick some up and wish the birthday boy a happy birthday. We’ve had to get creative in these COVID days, haven’t we? Next month, I am also holding my first ever Blend Bash (a party style for Pink Zebra) with my friends, and it’s a Halloween themed one to boot! Also looking forward to Labor Day Weekend (three days off – yay!) and another long weekend in September that I took off for my Blend Bash.

What else is new

Caleb will officially start “kindergarten” next month, and we’re still trying to figure out how that’s going to work since he’ll be going virtually. He’ll be at my mom’s during the school day, but everything is still so unknown. In happier news, the dog got a much needed haircut, and Caleb is obsessed with it. Ever since his baby days, he laughs and laughs when he sees the dog after his haircut.
