Five on Friday (70)

Happy Friday! The last full week before the short Thanksgiving week… hallelujah! Here’s what’s been going on over here lately.

ONE.

I have OFFICIALLY started my Hallmark Christmas movie watching for the season. I am very serious about this business and even keep checklists and make ratings on Google docs. So far since last weekend, I have watched three. My favorite one so far has been Cranberry Christmas. Have you watched any yet? I’m likely to watch two more this weekend.

TWO.

Next week I’m getting my car inspected and a couple of other repairs like a brake light, brake work, and possibly a tire change on my front tires. THEN, the week after that Jerry’s car goes in for basically the same things. Why is living so expensive? LOL. It’s kind of a necessity to get the cars in tip top shape before winter though. New York winters and driving in them can be brutal. It’ll be a relief to get it all done.

THREE.

I’ve also started to make a decent dent in our Christmas shopping, and have been ordering a couple of things for the kids each week. We don’t go bananas and get them tons of toys. We try to keep it a little lowkey, and don’t typically go over $100 per child. I think what we get them is plenty. Holden was still a baby last year, but Caleb is always thrilled with his gifts, even if they include games and books, and not dozens of toys! So far, I’ve gotten Caleb Free Willy on DVD, a book he wanted, a Perfect Pet, and a game. We still need to get him a DVD player and a couple of other little things. For Holden, we’ve also gotten a Perfect Pet, a different animated dog, a fake remote controller / video game controller set, with plans to buy a mini indoor trampoline and a couple of other small things still.

FOUR.

In other kid news, we got Caleb’s kindergarten photo back, and it’s adorable. I can’t believe how big he’s gotten. He’s so smart, observant, and intuitive. He can read people’s emotions and respond to them appropriately, and he reads way above his grade level. He’s the sweetest boy. As for Holden, he is my feral child for sure. He’s always getting into trouble, throwing things down the stairs, and breaking things. That child tests my patience DAILY, but can also be sweet when he wants to be. He has his first Speech Therapy visit today! Caleb also went through Speech and he’s brilliant now, so I’m honestly not worried about Holden.

FIVE.

Welp, COVID’s going wild again here in NY, as it is elsewhere. It’s spreading like wildfire, and we’re to the point where we may or may not do Thanksgiving dinner now. We keep it small anyway (just my family, my parents, and my brother’s family), but we’ve all been exposed to positive cases at work now, and my dad has diabetes. Everything is up in the air at this point still. I know for sure. Regardless, I’ll be making my yearly pecan pie, and Jerry will be making his Mexican sweet bread, but it might end up being more of a food exchange or something similar. I guess we just have to start thinking of the health risks with all of the exposure now, and weigh the pros and cons.

So that’s all I got. Wondering and worrying about COVID and the holidays and family and illness. I’m sure you’re all in the same boat too, so at least we’re rowing together.

The weekend should be fairly lowkey. I have to do some Pink Zebra work, as usual. I typically spend a couple of hours on the weekends doing blends, samples, mailings, etc. I also need to put my monthly Scent Club together this weekend, but I do have my mom and a friend coming to help (masked!). What about you all? Any plans? Staying in? Staying safe? I sure hope so!

That’s five for now — see you in the next chapter.
