Thankful Thursday (25)

Happy Thursday, which means it’s almost Friday! I’m already thankful for that! Today I’m linking up with the amazing Rebecca Jo to talk about the little things I’ve been thankful for lately. Since we’re now coming up on a year of this pandemic really hitting us hard here, it’s more important than ever to try and find the little things to be happy about.

Three day weekend

I was off on Monday for Presidents’ Day. Didn’t really do a whole lot, but I’m always thankful for a random day off. Sometimes having a “government” job has its perk, like having most bank holidays off. It most definitely has its downfalls, but sometimes it has perks.

A quiet Valentine’s Day

We never go out for Valentine’s Day, but we DEFINITELY didn’t go out this year! However, we did exchange small surprise gifts. I got Jerry a 6 pack of craft beer from Wegmans (a make your own pack that I was clueless about), and he got me a box of chocolates and my favorite cookie cups from Wegmans. The kids got some bags of candy that Jerry picked up and dispersed into gift bags and Caleb said that Valentine’s Day was his favorite… though he says that on every holiday. If we’re still going through a pandemic during all the holidays next year and we don’t go out, we’ll have to start finding other fun solutions like an escape room online.

My coworker coming to the rescue

I’ve had some tire problems lately. My tire went completely flat in November, got repaired by my mechanics, then hasn’t been holding air well since. With the freezing weather, two of them got super deflated at work the other night and my coworkers were worried about me driving home. Luckily, one of my colleagues had a tire inflator in his car, so we traipsed out into the cold dark night, and he kindly inflated them for me.

My parents coming to the rescue

We had a ton of snow the other night, and poor Jerry worked 23 hours in a 38 hour timeframe, so I was basically on my own for a couple of days. My parents didn’t want me to have to bring the kids out in the snow storm, so they came to my house to watch them instead of me bringing them over there on Monday. My dad also brushed off my car before I left for work, and fixed a shoe rack that I did a shoddy job of putting together. Bahaha. I put it together during another week in which Jerry worked a ton of OT and I didn’t want to bug him to do it.

Food truck at work

Over the last few months, the town built a new (outdoor) ice skating rink directly next to my library. They used to have one across the parking lot, but now it’s right outside our door. They decided to have a fun event this week since the kids are on school break, and had a food truck come to the rink yesterday at lunch time. Wahoo! Anything to add a little excitement to the work day, right? So I basically just had to walk out the door and had a gourmet lunch. I got a pulled pork plate and it was so good. More food trucks at work please!

And I think that’ll be it for now! It’s been a loooong week with bad weather and Jerry working more hours than not! I also have a friend right now who has been feeling sick for a over a month and is in the hospital. It’s not COVID, but they’re running tests to try and get some answers for her, so please send some good vibes her way.
