ONE.
Last weekend, the boys and I went to opening night of their favorite “Spooky Hayride” at a local farm. I like to go as early in the season as possible to beat the long lines—and because the sooner we can start our fall traditions, the better. The hayride isn’t quite haunted (I don’t think they’re ready for that yet). Instead of live actors, it’s filled with animatronics scattered through the woods—basically a haunted hayride lite. We’ve been going for years, and they always have a blast. Last year, I took them to a lights-on daytime version of a haunted house. They absolutely LOVED it and are begging to go to the regular night-time version this year. They don't recommend it for kids under 13, so I'm still on the fence about it. We'll see!
TWO.
The kids and I made our return to running last week! (Okay, Holden and I are still doing a lot more walking than running.) We’ve been out four times so far, aiming for three outings a week. We run on either the high school track, or a trail behind the school. My legs are sore, I got blisters the very first night, and it’s definitely harder than I remember—but we’re doing it. I’m excited, and looking forward to signing us up for some races soon, especially our beloved Turkey Trot.
THREE.
Earlier this month, I finally went to the neurologist—long overdue—because I was back to having 10–11 migraines a month. The Emgality injections I’d been using had stopped working. They switched me to Qulipta on September 10th, and I haven’t had a single migraine since. Such a relief. For me, preventatives usually work for a couple of years before fizzling out, so I’m just grateful to have some much-needed peace right now.
FOUR.
Hallmark released their highly anticipated Christmas movie schedule last week! The lineup starts in October, and I can’t wait. (For reference: I watched 47 TV Christmas movies last year.) Good news—this year’s “Holiday Touchdown” features the Buffalo Bills, our local team! Last year, their Holiday Touchdown movie was the Chiefs. I’m not a football fan at all, but the movie ended up being one of my favorites of the season. The only downside is that it looks like new releases will only air on one of their channels instead of two. Either way, these movies keep me cozy and busy for over two months. I track them every year with spreadsheets (yes, really), and sometimes even review them.
FIVE.
I’ve been packing our calendar with as many fall activities as possible, and that’ll carry straight into October. When the boys get home from their dad’s on Sundays, we usually head to a local farm for cider slushies, donuts, and other treats. We’ve already hit a handful of farms this year (our first visit was in August). The boys aren’t quite as obsessed as I am, but I can usually talk at least one into tagging along. Fall is my season—I live for the pumpkins, the colors, and all the festive little moments. We even got our pumpkins on September 1st. Too early? Maybe. Worth it? Absolutely.
That’s five for now — see you in the next chapter.
