Spring has Sprung

The first warm day always feels a bit like magic.

It comes unexpectedly, just two days after the last snow. It sneaks up on us so we can shed our coats and boots much earlier than expected, but much later too. The snow melts and reveals our downtrodden grass. The tulips push through the dirt, gasping for life and popping with color. We look around and we smile because we’ve been waiting so long for the sun. We throw open our blinds and squint at the brightness we haven’t seen since last summer. We welcome it with open arms. It feels a lot like freedom. It feels a lot like open roads with windows down. It feels like singing along in the car while the wind throws our hair around our faces but we don’t care about the knots. It tastes like ice cream. It looks like the pier. It sounds like the beach and the chirping birds all around.

Spring has sprung and the world is ours again. In a few months, we will long again for the winter days of bundling up on the couch, hot chocolate in hand. But for now? We embrace the freedom, the newness of spring. We are happy for the changing seasons. We are relieved to say goodbye to the dreary days of winter, for the loss it brought our family. We are reminded of how sweet life can be, as Caleb runs free in the grass, as he visits the Easter Bunny and laughs.

With open arms, we say: hello spring. So lovely to see you.
