ONE.
I’ve had some questions about my weight loss surgery, and just haven’t had a whole lot of news to report! I virtually “met” with my dietitian again at the end of July for the 5th time. I’ve completed all my other clearances and appointments (which was A LOT!), and am now just waiting on the dietitian to clear me. Once she gives the go-ahead, the next step is to meet with my surgeon and schedule the surgery. I have to lose about 10-15 pounds before she’ll clear me though (“pandemic” weight gain due to stress eating), and that’s the only hold up right now. I had another virtual appointment scheduled for the end of August but I canceled it. She expected me to lose 10 pounds in that month between appointments, and I didn’t. I decided that I am going to do this on my terms and my timeline, so I will call back to re-schedule with her once I meet my goal. She was setting what felt like unrealistic goals for me and the pressure and stress was getting to me. I knew that if I had “met” with her in August, she would have just said I couldn’t be cleared yet because I hadn’t lost it all yet, and it honestly seems redundant for me to meet with her again and again until I finish losing it all. So that’s where I’m at… working on losing the weight, and then I’ll get cleared for surgery after that.
TWO.
Holden is officially two. His birthday was Wednesday, and it all felt very bittersweet to me because he’s my baby but he’s not really a baby anymore! It was fun though. I left work an hour early, and my mom treated us to KFC for dinner since the kids love it. She also made him a cake which he had a blast with, as you can see. I actually left work an hour early the day before his birthday too because he would have been in bed by the time I normally get home on Tuesdays. I wanted to be the one to put him to bed on his last night as a one year old. This Saturday evening we’re having his “drive by” birthday celebration. We’re going to set up dessert cups on a table outside and people can drive by to grab one and see the birthday boy.
THREE.
I had a “Dip n’ Sniff” get together at my house last weekend. My mom came, and so did my two good friends Katie and Denise. Basically, we got together to eat dip (which I sell) and sniff my wax scent testers (which I also sell). It was really fun and we just hung out, talked, and ate. Everyone picked out their favorite scents and we thought it was hilarious how two people can react so differently to the same scent (one of us would be like “eww! That one’s nasty,” while another person loved it).
FOUR.
On Monday, I hosted book club at my house and it was the first time I’ve seen my book club girls since COVID started! (This is my personal book club. I also run a Forever YA book club at work, and still haven’t seen those girls because my library hasn’t resumed in person programming yet. Sadness.) Anyway, back to my personal book club… there are only 4 of us, and we mostly just get together every month to eat snacks, b*tch, and gossip. I lovingly refer to it as “Snack Club” because we almost never read the books anymore. Oops. It was so nice to feel normal and spend time with friends again. My heart was feeling pretty full because I had book club, my Dip n’ Sniff, and also a long phone call with my best friend over the weekend too, so it was a lot of quality time with friends. As we all know, friendships have been pretty neglected this year due to COVID, so it was good for my soul. I am such an introvert and a homebody, so I generally don’t socialize a lot anyway, but sometimes… even an introvert starts to feel isolated! I really have some of the best friends ever, and I need to make more of an effort to stop being such an introvert, and be a little more social. I always feel better after spending time with them!
FIVE.
My family has always shopped at Aldi. It’s our primary place to grocery shop, and we use just about everything there from food to diapers to toilet paper. We only go to Wegmans and Walmart for the few things we can’t find at Aldi. Anyway, we save tons of money and are always singing their praises. I’ve loved them even more lately, though! Are any of you in the Aldi Nerd or Aisle of Shame Facebook groups? They’re always posting really good “Aldi Finds” in the groups, and lately, I’ve been going nuts over their candles. Every few weeks or months, they usually drop 4 new scents of 3-wick candles, but they tend to sell out fast. I’ve gone 2 or 3 times now at open time on Sundays (when they drop the “Aldi Finds” in NY stores), and have always had luck getting all the candles I’ve wanted. Last week it was a bunch of pumpkin candles, and they’re the same size as Bath and Body Works for only $3.99. I am a major BBW lover, but they’re not always affordable, and Aldi always is! I even got my work bestie into their candles now! Haha. This Sunday, I’m going again for a couple of new release items: fall wax melts and warmers, and then next Sunday, I’ll be going back AGAIN for another candle release with 4 more scents! Can’t wait! PS they also have s’mores sandwich cookies in the Aisle of Shame right now and they are amazing.
And that’s what’s been going on lately with us. What about you? Do you shop at Aldi? Do you eat your cake like Holden does?
