Weekend Recap (7)

Hi guys, happy Monday… the last Monday of September. Yikes!

We had a somewhat busy weekend so I thought I’d share what we got up to.

Friday was just your standard Friday fare. I worked until 5 and Jerry and the kids were already home when I got home. Jerry was nice enough to surprise me with dinner, and it was ready when I got there. He always just kind of throws things together and makes his own recipes, and they always come out delicious. This was a pasta and chicken teriyaki concoction. It was great, and even though the kids had already eaten, Holden was eating my dinner too. Jerry made the chicken in our Instapot, and it came out so delicious and tender. We love all of our nifty kitchen appliances, but the Instapot is one I am still too intimidated to use. After dinner, the rest of the night was just a lazy one at home.

Saturday was a busy day for us. We were up and out the door by around 9:30. Our first stop was Sips, a local coffee shop. I wanted to try their Frozen Spice Apple drink they were advertising (chai + cider), and Jerry needed his morning coffee. It was our first time there, but we would definitely go back. While he was inside, I waited in the car with the kids. Caleb spotted a pizza shop in the same plaza and started asking for pizza, all before 10 am lol.

From there, we headed out to the next farm in our Donut Quest 2020 tour: Herman’s Farm Market and Cider Mill. In 2017, they were our fry cake winner on Donut Quest, but sadly, they won’t be winning this year. We took the kids in and picked up a half dozen glaze and a half dozen cinnamon sugar. They were delicious, but not quite as delicious as I remember them. I think part of that may be due to the fact that you have to buy them pre-packaged now due to COVID. They came in a plastic container and I believe that caused some moisture, so they weren’t as crisp on the outside as they were before. Hopefully they won’t have to be pre-packaged next year!

From Herman’s, we headed back to Kelly’s Farm Market and Bakery for the second time this year to get some specialty apples that Jerry loved last time. While Herman’s only had one other car in the parking lot, Kelly’s was a mob scene. I opted to stay in the car and send Jerry in because Holden would have been alllll over the place like he was last time. He grabbed his apples, a couple more donuts (so we could do an accurate comparison with Herman’s), and the apple crisp I requested.

After that, we stopped at the gas station for some specialty beer Jerry wanted, then I dropped the boys all off at home. I ran to pick up a Christmas item from Facebook Marketplace, went to the post office to mail out some Pink Zebra loyalty rewards, then stopped at Perri’s Pizza for their huge slices for lunch, since Caleb had a hankering for pizza. Caleb ate almost his entire huge slice, and Holden and I enjoyed some pizza too. It was a good treat.

The rest of the day was mostly a lazy one because the morning was full of errands. Holden and I napped and we all enjoyed donuts all day long. I made a quick run to Aldi after naps because Jerry wanted me to make dip, so I got some stuff for that. Luckily, they also had just unpacked their Halloween items that were supposed to release on Sunday. Instead of going at open time on Sunday morning like I had planned, I was able to grab the metal Halloween luminaries I wanted that night. Score!

For “dinner,” I enjoyed some of my dip, followed by my apple crisp, with a little Teen Mom on TV. Worst best show.

Sunday was a pretty uneventful day. I spent the morning doing some work for my Pink Zebra business. I had to make up some blends that I was selling, put some more loyalty rewards together, and put together a to-do list. The rest of the day consisted of nothing much: laundry, naps, watching crime shows, lazing around. In the evening, I ran out to pick up some free protein shakes! A woman in the local bariatric Facebook group is moving out of country and was giving them away, so that was awesome and a huge money saver for me. I have really been struggling lately with the process and motivation due to stress / pandemic eating, and a very unsupportive nutritionist (I am actually in the process of trying to switch over to a new one).

After that, the weekend was pretty much done. Is it Friday again yet?
