Month in Review: August 2020

August 2020 in Review

August was an okay month. Still a whole lot of work and COVID weirdness. I was a little busier than I have been since COVID started, but overall, it was still lowkey. I say it was okay because it had some really high highs (Pink Zebra!), and some really low lows (migraines). Here’s how the month shaped up for me.

Happenings and Tidbits

  • I launched my Pink Zebra business at the beginning of August, and it has taken off way more than I thought it would! I hit my first Quick Start goal and had over $1,000 in sales in August. I’ve been having SO MUCH FUN! I’ve been growing my group, making live videos, and getting to share something I love (home fragrance!) with friends. This has been the highlight of the year so far.
  • I had really awful migraines for a lot of the month. This was due to a birth control change, and the BC change was due to slightly elevated blood pressure. I probably had a migraine for about half of all the days in August and it was awful. Luckily, I’ve been migraine-free for a few days now, so fingers crossed my body has finally adjusted to the new medication. I’m not super hopeful because it’s only been a handful of days… but we shall see!
  • My parents had a tent at a local flea market, so the kids and I went out there one weekend to look around. I scored an antique metal cabinet for $5 to store some of my wax in!
  • We re-subscribed to Shudder so we could see In Search of Darkness, and we also started watching Creepshow. Jerry and I are horror-obsessed, so we’re excited to watch lots more horror with our new subscription.
  • One weekend was really hot out, so we took the kids outside to run around in their sprinkler. Holden doesn’t really like water, but Caleb definitely does.
  • Jerry made prime rib for dinner one night in his new cast iron skillet. OMG. Delicious.
  • Another highlight of the month was finally getting some decent friend time in!
    • My friend Denise came over one weekend to hang out and make wax samples.
    • The following weekend, Denise, Katie, and my mom came over for a Dip n’ Sniff party where I served my dips, we hung out, and sniffed all of the wax samples.
    • My book club finally met again and I hosted in August at my house. So glad to see my book club girls again.
  • My parents ordered a Kona Ice (shaved ice) truck to come to their house for my boys and their cousins. They each got a shaved ice and were so excited to see the truck pull up!
  • Dakota (my dog) finally got his hair cut.

Coming Up in September 2020

  • The biggest event of September already happened: Holden turned two on the second! We also held a “drive by” birthday celebration for him.
  • I also already had a three day weekend for Labor Day.
  • Holden has his two year check up at the doctor.
  • I took two vacation days next week because…
    • I am having my first Blend Bash next week! This is a party style that we do in Pink Zebra where people get together to blend up scents. I am really excited and nervous because it’s my first one!
  • I’ll be getting my first Pink Zebra commission check!
  • Hopefully starting to make our yearly rounds on all the local farms who sell seasonal fry cakes.

And that’s it for August! I’m glad it’s over and that we’re slowly creeping into cooler temps and fall festivities!
