Weekend Recap (6): A Long Weekend

Hey all, happy Tuesday! I had a very busy long weekend, so I thought I’d do a little recap.

I had my first Blend Bash party on Friday (a party for my Pink Zebra business), so I decided to make a long weekend out of it, and took vacation days for Thursday and Friday. Well, it ended up being nearly an entire week off because of Holden’s lead testing scare on Tuesday. I had to leave work early that day to get his blood work done, and then I ended up calling in sick on Wednesday because of a migraine and waiting to hear his results and next steps.

Since my long weekend officially started on Thursday, let’s take it back to Thursday, shall we?

The biggest and best thing that happened on Thursday was that I finally got ahold of the doctor’s office, and it turned out that Holden’s lead levels were normal. His finger prick at the office had indicated high levels, but are often inaccurate. That’s why they sent us for a blood draw (from the veins) for more accuracy, and it came back fine. Phew!

I also went to Aldi with my mom and the kids for a regular weekly shop, as well as to get food and snacks for my Blend Bash. Holden screamed and cried the entire time, so that was delightful. After that, I also went to Michaels for a curbside pickup on a Halloween decoration, and we got KFC for lunch.

Thursday later in the afternoon, I finally got my Blend Bash kit that I’d been waiting for anxiously all week. I heard the Fed Ex guys drop it off, and I flew outside to get it. This contained the 8 cartons of scents and other goodies I would need for my Bash on Friday. There have been a lot of shipping delays lately due to COVID, so it was uncertain whether I’d get it on time, and I was a nervous wreck all week. Once it arrived, I spent a lot of Thursday evening cleaning up, organizing, decorating, and getting my Blend Bash set up in the dining room.

Friday was an exciting day! I wanted to get a dozen fry cakes from one of the local farms for my Blend Bash, so Jerry left work early at 11. When he got home, we packed up the kids and headed to Kelly’s, a local farm market and bakery. There was a bit of aline line, but it moved pretty quickly. We got a dozen donuts for the party, apples for Jerry, donuts and brownies for the kids, then snapped a few pictures outside before heading home. I love Kelly’s, but have only been there a couple of times. I was glad to cross them off my Donut Quest 2020 list.

Once we got home, it was time for more party prep! Jerry and I got to cleaning and cooking, and the boys were their usual wild selves. I made a cold chili cheese dip as well as warm buffalo chicken dip in the crockpot. Always grateful for all of our cooking appliances and appliance repair for when they break, and there are plenty of repair options if you’re in a big city like Toronto. The Crockpot is my personal favorite! We also had plenty of sweet treats, too. Jerry used the apples to make little mini apple pies. Yum! I set up all the food in the kitchen, and continued prepping by setting up all of my Pink Zebra goodies and putting things away.

Caleb was very excited all day for the Blend Bash, and it finally started at 6! There were a total of 8 guests, and everyone seemed to have a great time! They all got to create and blend 3 custom scents, I gave away a couple of prizes, sold a couple things to my bestie, and of course the food was a huge hit. I was busy running around the whole time, but finally got to snack a bit and unwind after the party ended. All of the fry cakes went, and most everything else did too! My friend Margaret brought mummy cookies to share, Ania brought jalapeno poppers, and Krystal brought chips and Diet Coke for me. HA! We had a nice spread of food, and everyone enjoyed making their own blends. French Vanilla was the most popular scent of the night, followed by Ambered Fig.

Saturday was another fun day! My friend Christine and I decided to take Donut Quest 2020 to the next level. Many people recommended a donut shop called Paula’s in Buffalo, a neighboring city about an hour away. Because we are that extreme in our love for donuts, we decided we would take a mini donut road trip! Holden stayed home with Jerry, but Caleb and I headed over to her house about 10 am, and we drove down together, along with her little guy! We had a nice time chatting during the drive, and the boys were being goofy in the back.

When we arrived, we were surprised to see that there was a line out the door, but it moved really fast! I got a half dozen regular donuts in a mixture of flavors, as well as two specialties: a cookie dough donut and a cannoli one. Freaking YUM!

Christine popped the hatch in the back of the Jeep for the boys to sit, and we each had a donut to try before hitting the road again with our stashes. I first tried the chocolate glaze, and OMG, it was incredible. We headed back home, donuts in tow, and I had fun trying many of the other varieties throughout the day. We all absolutely LOVED Paula’s, and it was definitely worth the trip. They were some of the best donuts I’ve had and I would love to go back. Plus, it was nice to spend some quality time with Christine!

Donut Quest will definitely continue this weekend! I’m planning on making a stop somewhere with Jerry and the kids on Saturday, and maybe another stop with Denise somewhere else too (she’s my DQ20 partner in crime this year). We have a huge list of places to go to that will likely take us all fall to get through… but I am up for the challenge! It may mean 2 stops per weekend on some occasions, but it will get done! It is a very important duty to try, sample, and review all of the donuts in the area. Ha!

The rest of the day was kind of a lazy one at home. I watched some crazy crime documentaries on Amazon Prime and just relaxed. I watched The Family I Had, followed by The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia. Both were definitely interesting to watch, but if you’re interested in true crime, I would highly recommend The Family I Had. It’s about a 13 year old who killed his younger sister. It was so heartbreaking, but it was very well done.

Sunday morning started out with some errands. I ran to Aldi when they opened at 9 to get the 3 layer candles they released that day. Then, I dropped off an apple pie that Jerry made to my parent’s house. After that, I stopped at the Dollar Tree to pick up some stuff for my Monthly Scent Club subscriptions, like note cards and cute boxes to put them in.

The rest of the weekend was mostly lazy. I had to get Caleb to do a little bit of schoolwork on Sunday night, which included some coloring by number (looked kinda fun!).

And now here we are, back to the grind in another busy work week.

Is it Friday yet?!
